Poll question: "You're not going to make a big deal about this are you?"
OC Republican allegedly sent offensive Obama email
AP via Yahoo! News

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_obama_offensive_email

LOS ANGELES – A Southern California Republican Party official was under fire Saturday after allegations she sent an email that included an altered photo depicting President Barack Obama as an ape.

An e-mail reportedly sent by party central committee member Marilyn Davenport shows an image, posed like a family portrait, of chimpanzee parents and child, with Obama's face artificially superimposed on the child. Text beneath the photo reads, "Now you know why no birth certificate."

Davenport, when reached by The Associated Press, said she would provide a written statement with her response, but several hours later she had not issued one.

The alternative newspaper OC Weekly first reported the story, and was told by Davenport that the e-mail was "just an Internet joke." She also asked the Weekly, "You're not going to make a big deal about this are you?"

2. If the shoe were on the other foot...
it would be 24/7 on M$M. We only hear crickets on the subject from them.

11. Sadly, the shoe has been on the other foot. How many times did we compare Bush to a chimp?
... that is the ONLY reason I'm not up in arms over this, is because I know I am standing in a glass house on comparing presidents to primates.

I still think it's likely horribly racist and that race WAS the motivating factor with why they chose this depiction (whereas with Bush it was because he really did seem to act like a primate), but ... yeah. I just can't get on this one.

12. Gotta agree
While it might be fun to make political hay out of the situation, a quick google of "bush chimp picture" reveals that there is really nothing new and offensive about this.

13. We compared Bush to a Chimp because he was extremely stupid
They compare Obama to a Chimp because they are horribly raciest.

3. She just doesn't get it.

Apparently she lacks the requisite brain power.

She wants to trivialize this as if to say "well everyone else likes it".

No wonder she's a GOP official, she's stupid as a box of rocks.

4. I can't help but remember the big effin deal the repukes
made about the comment the Dixie Chicks made about dimson.. All Natalie said was that she was embarrassed to be from the same state as dimson. This is so minor compared to everything that has been said and thrown against President Obama.

9. the difference between bush-hate & obama-hate is as plain as the nose on a face.
people hated bush for WHO he was:
....a disrespectful rich skid who never applied himself, who was a mean, vindictive liar..a man who went to Harvard/Yale and yet seemed to learn nothing.. a man who liked executing people..who was proud of being lazy..a man who took favors to stay out of Viet nam and still did not "finish" his service... these are ALL things that HE had power to change, and chose not to

people who hate Obama are mostly hating him because they fear what he is the embodiment of... a black man who rose to the top, and who deserves to be there.. they cannot accept him and HE cannot change their hard-wired beliefs about him or any other black person.

5. Translation: "I didn't realize that a nigger-lover would see this email. And for that, I'm sorry."
She's not sorry that she's a racist. She's sorry that she got caught.

6. Ahem.
You better believe we're gonna make a big fat fuckin' deal about this.

The reason why you haven't released a statement is because you cannot make one. This is inexcusable.

7. "just an Internet joke"
Really, Ms. Davenport? Pasting the face of Obama, a half black man, is a joke? What a sick sense of humor this woman has.

10. The longer Davenport stonewalls and refuses to relinquish her power, the
more opportunities it presents to paint her and by extension the Republican Party proper as a party of unapologietic white racists. Of course it's a big fucking deal.

14. The country is past being shocked. So much has been thrown
out there now, nothing will happen. On to the next incident.

It is like diminishing returns, trivialize long enough
and no one pays attention.
