http://www.conspiratorthemovie.com/I went to see Robert Redford's "The Conspirator" last night and want to recommend it to all Americans who still think that military tribunals are an acceptable substitute for a real trial by a jury of your peers.
This film is a historical drama centered around the aftermath of the assassination of President Lincoln on April 14th, 1865 immediately following the end of the American Civil War.
It centers on the military tribunal that tried the conspirators and in particular on Mary Surratt, (a woman who ran a boarding house in Washington D.C. who was accused of being one of the conspirators that assassinated Lincoln, attacked Secretary of State Seward and plotted to kill Vice President Johnson) and on Surrat's attorney Frederick A. Aiken as he struggles against the vast power of the Federal government that has been brought to bear against his client.
If ever there was an argument against military tribunals such as first Bush and now Obama are conducting in Guantanamo it is this movie.
May it reach the White House screening room soon.
