46 Percent of Mississippi Republicans Want Interracial Marriage Banned

A new poll gauging Mississippi Republicans' preferences going into the 2012 election ended up revealing something more startling: 46 percent of GOP voters in the state think interracial marriage should be illegal.

Results were announced Thursday by Public Policy Polling, a polling firm based in North Carolina. The company asked 400 Republican primary voters about their preferences for candidates for state and national offices, as well as their views on interracial marriage.

A whopping 46 percent of likely GOP primary voters said they think interracial marriage should be illegal, while only 40 percent said they think it should be allowed. Another 14 percent said they were unsure.

It was only 45 years ago that Mississippi legalized interracial marriage, and this poll indicates it continues to be a controversial subject. ..............(more)

1. If they're against gay marriage...at least they're consistent in their
bigotry...I guess.

Not much else to say to something like this.

Edited on Mon Apr-18-11 08:05 AM by reggie the dog
than marry a black person??? holy shit! these people would make my nephew, the product of a puerto rican and a white having a kid what then? a banned person? or a kid who simply would live with mom and dad who were not married?

i am going to florida this summer and am going camping in alabama, for some reason i think alabama has simillar numbers on this question.

i had a kid with a french woman. is that inter racial or because we are white we are allowed to mix ethnicities?

seeing as most black people in the usa have some white dna due to past institutionalized rape who would actually be banned from marrying? would a "pure black" from kenya not be allowed to marry a "black" metise or just not a white person? could whites marry "black" metises or just whites? and metise people i guess could not get married as they were already "mixed" so they can marry no one? i am confused? how would they sort that out? how do they think they will get constitutional support for such a change?

9. Well, I don't like Mississippi republicans cross-breeding with humans either.
The races don't mix well.

And because Mississippi republicans have neither hearts not brains, their is a definite risk to any progeny resulting from Mississippi republicans breeding with humans.

14. It was a poorly designed poll
First off the entire poll is about political candidates and affiliations. Then you have this interracial marriage question that sticks out like a sore thumb.

Next, it appears this was a computerized poll (press 1 if your a man) but legal and illegal are terms that can be easily confused by both the computer and speaker.

Then the entire idea of 'illegal' marriage is problematic. For example, if I ask you whether marriage should be legal or illegal what would you say? I would say that marriage is a human right and therefore law doesn't come into play.

Lastly, that particular question serves no purpose in that poll. It doesn't help verify the responses or further identify political identity.
