Babysitter arrested after teen's suicide
by Sade Malloy

CANON CITY, COLO. -- Canon City Police officers arrested 30-year-old Brenda Lynette Harding, Friday in the 900 block of North 5th Street, after an investigation into the death of a Buena Vista 15-year-old.

Tristen Hagen was found dead on the top of the "Hogbacks" near Skyline Drive April 4th after being reported missing two days earlier. The Fremont County Coroner ruled the death a suicide from an overdose of two prescription medications, Oxycodone and Skelaxin.

Canon City investigators believe Hagen killed himself based on a pattern of abuse. Harding admits to having a sexual relationship and falling in love with the teen. Affidavit reports show Harding was the teen's babysitter during the summer of 2010 and that June, the two had sex for the first time. Hagen was 14 and Harding was 29, at the time.

man, and have you men jump on and say this crap.

this is the third thread today where a male is abused.

no woman is defending this and has NEVER defended this. generally men come on threads about the young boy sexually abused by an older woman and make jokes. you know, thinkgs like wet dream, all boys fantasies, lucky him. time and time again. and almost always the women are on the thread calling out the men and saying how disgusting it is.

men getting there little jab on a thread of a mentally challenged boy being assaulted, handcuffed, poked with a knife.

i know the thread you guys are talking about, and i was in agreement with the men on this.

14. Here's the deal.
I'm willing to concede that the point has been made, probably to excess. However, when you read DU'ers describe a perjuring, murdering arsonist as "downtrodden" ("Now prostitutes "victimize" men? Thought it was the other way around -- !!" (I guess murdering them doesn't count)) you have to have a fairly high ability to rationalize what the poster "really meant" to avoid the conclusion that DU'ers OFTEN defend this and things like it.

I've caught some justified hell in the past for "denying others experience". The experience of many men on DU is being expressed in comments like this. You might argue that their experience is based on misinterpretation, but you can't argue that it's not real to them.

On poster in particular has made it clear that she still believes that Crystal Mangum was victimized by the people she lied about and tried to imprison. She even brings up DNA evidence which she knows didn't belong to any of the students as evidence of this victimization.

It's abundantly clear that to some posters the facts are simply puzzle pieces to be arranged into a narrative which fits their world view - no matter what they actually portray.

I can understand the double standard if it's coming from FR. They expect women to be little more than big children in whom we should have very low expectations. I don't understand it coming from people who are about equality.

Women have an equal capacity for violence and antisocial behavior as men do. With both bad men and bad women, sometimes empathy isn't warranted, nor is searching for an excuse for their behavior.

15. Women have an equal capacity for violence and antisocial behavior
i agree. but then again, i see this as more human behavior, than gender behavior. one of the things more and more of our females are learning in our societies today.

i guess crystal mangun is the duke thing...

i havent even gone into the duke threads, i know men are mad about that.

i just saw one too many boys hurt at a womans hand and one to many snarky responses, instead of empathy for the boys experience

2. Abusing youth isn't ever right, but
the vast majority of sexually abused youth are female. Although it certainly is debatable whether the abuse is as serious when the victim is female or male, it isn't surprising that the potential results can be horrid regardless of the gender of the abused person.

10. The vast majority who *report* abuse are female.
Edited on Tue Apr-19-11 08:05 PM by moriah
It doesn't mean that it doesn't occur, and since society seems to condone it (haven't you seen the South Park?) it doesn't surprise me fewer report it. I've not known anyone who it's happened to that was male that did report it.

13. i dont know with children if it is male or female that are abused more. seems to me, that
doesnt seem to matter, or is significant enough. WAY too many boys are raped and sexually abused. all the same for me.

6. One of the things that separates us from our fellow apes
is our ability to rise above instinct and regardless of gender, I have nothing but revulsion for those who just can't lock it away until the objects of their "affection" can at least legally CONSENT.

Here's hoping her ass gets sued for all she's worth and then some. I'd like to see some prison time, but that will be difficult for LEO and the DA's office.

8. Maybe parents went away for vacation? Month long babysitting? Teens that age
would need an overnight babysitter.
