I'd Like To Remind Everybody That The Bowles-Simpson Commission Never...
Edited on Thu Apr-21-11 07:53 PM by WillyT
passed a vote for approval by its own members.

The National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform (also called Bowles-Simpson) is a Presidential Commission created in 2010 by President Barack Obama to identify "…policies to improve the fiscal situation in the medium term and to achieve fiscal sustainability over the long run."<1> The commission first met on April 27, 2010.<2> A report was released on December 1, 2010, but failed a vote on December 3 with 11 of 18 votes in favor, with a supermajority of 14 votes needed to formally endorse the blueprint.<3>

I don't CARE whether its blueprint is cited by a Democrat, or a Republican.

It NEVER got voted out of committee, so to speak.

1. You are right to do so
It was a loser despite tons of pressure on the members to reach the magic number of 14 that the committee required (by their own rules) to approve the report. The tome is fine kitty box liner, but lousy policy.

2. Right, and we should remind our progressive media
of this also, since I haven't heard this from them either.

3. The majority voted to endorse it, which
is all that will be cited when it's used as the excuse to gut Social Security. Obama has praised their recommendations and has said that he's considering them.

Did you know that their plan called for $56,000 in benefit cuts for the average Social Security recipient? And that, before they were appointed, 10 of the 18 were on record as saying benefits needed to be cut?

4. The media almost refers
to it as the law of the land.

5. They didn't have the votes ...
is an excuse when you want it to be.
