Citizens say police dog, state troopers intimidated them on visit to Ohio legislators' offices

COLUMBUS, Ohio - A group of citizens concerned about state budget cuts to social services was greeted by heavy-handed security and a police dog when they visited a state office building earlier this month, according to people who witnessed the incident.

Members of the group, which numbered less than 100, had made appointments to visit the downtown offices of their state representatives. But security guards and two State Highway Patrol troopers stopped them from boarding elevators inside the office building.

"It was bad communication and it was an overreaction," said Deborah Nebel, director of public policy of Linking Employment, Abilities and Potential, a Northeast Ohio advocacy group for people with disabilities.
