Florida -- the American nightmare
Our (unconvicted criminal) Governor is Rick Scott. He's admitted to fourteen felonies while CEO of Columbia/Healthcare, yet he's walking around a free man, a millionaire and the Governor of Florida. And together with the Republican congress in Tallahassee he's making Wisconsin and Texas look like "liberal" states.

Every day, I get up and look at the paper to find out what crimes they committed at the state capitol the previous midnight.

Basically, here's their agenda. Screw voting rights for anyone who's ever been in jail. Screw voting rights for anyone who doesn't have a driver's license. (Yeah, Jim Crow is alive and well in Florida.) Screw unions. Cut Medicaid to the bone. Screw the poor. Screw the middle class. Screw anyone and everyone who isn't wealthy enough to buy a team of lobbyists. (And this is just the short list.)

Florida has become a nightmare, and it's the model for what the Republican Party is trying to do to the entire country. Yet, the MSM is absent,as usual.

Spend a few moments googling Florida and you'll get a glimpse of the "New America."

4. Gov. Voldemort makes Jeb Bush look like a boy scout.
Like you, every day I reluctantly click on FL news to see just how he's screwing us again. It's a race to the bottom.

6. And the sooner we hit rock bottom, the sooner people will wake up.
Now, please Democrats, don't let the trial lawyers pick your next candidate for Governor.

7. Your avatar is perfect for Florida, Dappleganger.

Hitchcock's scene of Janet Leigh getting murdered in the shower (in the scene from "Pscho") reflects the horrible reality of this state.

Americans beware. The moment you cross the border into Florida, you have checked into the Bates Motel.

the sense of helplessness and despair.

19. Nixon WAS a Hippie compared to today's GOP and DLC
and nearly all of the Democratic party, for that matter. :-(

8. I wonder ...
Is there a correlation between the recent statistics that the US Drug Czar talked about and the sad state of affairs in Florida?

According to Gil Kerlikowske (US drug czar), 98% of oxycontin addiction is in Florida.

Something to ponder ...

11. "the MSM is absent"
The M$M is in on it.

Coast to coast.

That's a huge part of our problem; people believe what they see on the TV news.

12. Glad I moved from that hellhole of a state in 1989.
I now live in Georgia, but despite being dominated by Republicans, it is a much better atmosphere.

15. Is there any way for Floridians to fight back?
Protests, strikes, recalls, something?

he was governor.

18. Fight back
I don't know how it is in other parts of the country but here in Florida, specifically Tampa, people are pretty apathetic. Most people don't know who the Governor is, let alone his policies. Maybe it is the heat or humidity but people here just don't give a shit. Part of the problem are the retirees who feel like they don't "owe" anyone anything in taxes because they already paid for their children when they lived in other parts of the country.

I work in local government and I've mentioned to several co-workers we should have a work stoppage on June 8, the day the county budget is approved and they look at me like I've got horns out of my forehead. "What?!? Why we might lose our job?" I try and point out that they can't fire everyone but they won't do it. Sure, they'll bitch about it but when it's time to put the heel to the sidewalk, no way, nada, not happening. Even though we have all had to take on extra work and every one of the jackass county commissioners think government workers are parasites.

At the state level, they had a protest where they "pink-slipped Rick" where they held up pink placards and yelled at him. I thought it to be a pretty tepid response. That shit doesn't work, you need to throw tomatoes, burn him in effigy, shout the SOB down with a megaphone.

We had an awake the state rally in Tampa and I brought a giant poster with him holding a bloody brain with blood dripping from his mouth that read, Tallahassee Terror, and was told it was too thuggish and tea baggerish. Now, most people loved the poster but that was the comment from two people. A few days later, I had a conversation with someone who said booing the Governor was wrong (he was throwing pitches at two separate baseball games); you should respect the office and not boo the Governor but keep silent if you disapprove. I thought that was the stupidest thing I ever heard. This guy has cut ALL the FUNDING for homeless programs in Florida. Do you know how many homeless people are ex-vets and/or single parents. I don't respect him or the office of Governor as he has totally disgraced it. I despise him and everything he represents.

Okay, sorry about the rant and venting but this guy really pisses me off and there's a good chance my job could be the next one on the chopping block.

Terry

20. I've lived in Orlando for 22 years and I see the same; totally apathetic citizens
they are less apathetic in my Downtown neighborhood, but the suburbanites usually haven't a clue about what's going on.
