The Vermont Energy Investment Corp. is taking its energy-saving savvy to the nation’s capital after winning a contract to lead a seven-year, $115 million effort to implement energy efficiency measures there similar to the ones it has brought to Vermont.
Executive Director Scott Johnstone was in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday to announce the program with Mayor Vincent Gray in a news conference at Freedom Plaza, blocks from the White House.
“This is a great chance to take the Vermont model and apply it in our nation’s capital and really spread this Vermont brand far and wide,” Johnstone said.
Vermont Energy Investment Corp. has received national and international attention for its creation of Efficiency Vermont, the state’s energy-efficiency utility that has been emulated in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
