Casualties In New Thailand, Cambodia Border Clash
Edited on Fri Apr-22-11 07:41 PM by AsahinaKimi
Thai and Cambodian troops have exchanged artillery- and gunfire in a flare-up of a long-running border dispute, and their militaries said six soldiers were killed.

Both sides have blamed each other for the escalation of hostilities, which follows a four-day clash between the two nations in the same region in February.

Tensions between the neighbors have been high over the border Hindu temple of Preah Vihear, with both countries claiming a 4.6-square-kilometer plot of land near the temple.

China urges Cambodia, Thailand to settle disputes through dialogue
BEIJING, April 22 (Xinhua) -- China on Friday called on Cambodia and Thailand to stay calm and resolve their differences through dialogue.

"Cambodia and Thailand are members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and good neighbors of China. China expects both countries to stay calm, exercise restraint and resolve differences through consultations," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said in a statement Friday.

Armed clashes between Cambodian and Thai troops erupted on Friday, just over two months since a deadly clash occurred from Feb. 4 to 7 in the disputed area next to Preah Vihear temple, a World Heritage Site.
