Dear AOL Members: AOL is Censoring YOUR Email

Dear AOL Members: AOL is Censoring YOUR Email
And you have never been told...

If you use an AOL email address, AOL is doing you the favor of making sure you do not receive email containing any links to BradBlog.com in it.

Not email from a BradBlog.com address, mind you, as if I was a spammer or something (which, obviously, I'm not), but any email from anybody that has a link to this site, or to one of our news stories.

I learned this swell news early this week when someone was kind enough to let me know that their attempts at sending a link to this site to a friend bounced back to them with an error message. That error message was "HVU:B2". And what is that error, specifically? You won't believe it…

FULL STORY: http://www.bradblog.com/?p=8487

(Please note: Nobody on AOL is allowed to receiving this message via email, so let them know somehow, if you can!)[/i

1. It looks like this is true.

I have an old AOL address. I sent an email with a link to this story and the word "Bradblog" from the email address to itself and it worked. I then went to a gmail account and did the same thing. The bradblog email was blocked. I sent another email from gmail to AOL without a reference to Bradblog and it went through. Why would Bradblog be blocked on AOL?

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

address@aol.com

Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 554 554 5.2.1 : (HVU:B2) http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/421hvub2.html (state 18).

The link goes to this: 421 HVU:B2
There is at least one URL or domain in your e-mail that is generating substantial complaints from AOL members. Resolution will require opening a support request.

6. Yup. Confirmed many times before I reported it...
Email from outside AOL to inside AOL with BradBlog.com in it will never get through.

Email from AOL user to AOL user with BradBlog.com in it, however, does seem to get through.

While in the middle of trying to focus on WI coverage, this is a really shitty time for AOL to pull this crap. Sorry WI AOL users!!! :-(

2. AOL also censors users but that worked out well for me
An asshole invaded an email group I participate in and after just a few weeks of his abuse, one of the other members of the group contacted his email provider - AOL. They kicked him off after reading his abusive emails. I certainly didn't have a problem with that.

4. Me too!
Worse than a virus on your machine and has been for years and years yet people still gobble it up. I never ceases to amaze me.

7. Thank you, Melissa G...
I realize this is late on a Friday (and Good Friday at that), but kind of amazed this story hasn't gotten more kicks/recs. Hope folks understand this isn't about BradBlog.com -- though that's bad enough on it's own. But if a news site like BradBlog.com can be censored for no actual cause, other than "substantial complaints from AOL members" (really? like who?), what other sites can be effectively knocked off the Internet for the millions of AOL users?

13. Indeed, this is a story that should have legs. Election theft is an issue
that the MSM wants swept under the carpet. Bradblog has done some of the best reporting on election shenanigans out there. It would be good to know who is behind the squelch and why.

How many other sites are being blacklisted? How many other topics are being censored? We may never know.

Thanks for all that Bradblog does! :toast: :patriot:

15. They have no business scanning the content of emails without a warrant.
Period. There's probably something buried in the TOS that says they can, but it is still wrong.

9. Yeah. I figured out that my emails to my mom aren't getting through AO-Hell, and they're from gmail.
Fucking suck-ass AOL. I've tried to get my mom to switch, but she's at the age where she's convinced doing something different is going to be way too hard for her.

This is not 1996 folks! It sucked back then so I can't imagine how bad it is now.
