Firing Rachel Maddow!
.

This cannot be allowed to stand. The truth is seeping out and it must be stopped. The ‘Rachel Maddow Show’ is one of the few remaining thought-provoking media platforms on the airways/internet today! The ‘Rachel Maddow Show’ represents a threat to political kabuki theater that is Washington D.C.

Friday’s (22 April 2011) show is an example of the quality of the show’s ability to put things in prospective. Her discussion with Matt Miller, “Why isn’t the progressive budget plan on the table?” is outstanding. If anything captures the frustration of ‘the ‘rest of us’ it is how the establishment corporate media are not even pretending to act as ‘honest brokers’ to truth.

Keep firing Rachel. The beltway media does not cover ‘Liberals/Progressives.’ How can the house of cards that is Washington D.C. be expected to withstand this wind of truth howling across the vast emptiness of the corporate media.

I hope the ‘Rachel Maddow Show’ is allowed to remain on the air. But I am not optimistic the establishment will tolerate the truth telling much longer.

7. Nobody's getting rid of Rachel; she gets good ratings
They didn't get rid of Keith for "speaking truth to power" or anything romantic like that; he's pissed his bosses off at every job he's ever had and is something of a diva off screen.

Barring a plunge in her ratings, Rachel's show is staying put.

9. You are being misleading, on purpose
When you open your post with "This cannot be allowed to stand", after the title "Firing Rachel Maddow!", you intend us to think that some decision to remove her from her job has been made. You are not just 'making a clever play on words', you are misusing words, and then going back on them.

This thread is pointless. Maddow is probably the most popular broadcaster for DUers; there is no need to rally support for her here. She gets it 100% of the time. All you are doing is spreading fear, with no basis at all for it.

12. To Borrow A Line From Fozzie Bear Of The Muppets ...
.

"Am I too hip for you in the room?"

You know when you have to explain what you've said, you're playing to a slow audience. It is safe to say the play on words went right over some heads. I image these same people will not like it if one were to say,"I am so broke I can't pay attention."

Rachel Maddow is firing on all burners. Her ability to articulate the issues clearly and concisely makes her show an example of what political discourse should be. She is capable and competent. Her show is outstanding and a joy to watch.

My apology to all who missed the pun.

13. pun
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/pun

^snip^

noun

1. the humorous use of a word or phrase so as to emphasize or suggest its different meanings or applications, or the use of words that are alike or nearly alike in sound but different in meaning; a play on words.

Our taking the word "firing" literally when you were trying to use it figuratively isn't really a pun. Also, the subject matter that the literal use of the word implied was not humorous.

If you would like an nice example of a pun posted here on DU then please check out the first response to this thread, and notice who posted it.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x916028

Both meanings of the word are literal. That is what makes it funny and therefore a pun.

P.S. I am afraid the response to your question is the same one Fozzie would have received.

15. So Do The Trees Moving Make The Wind Blow?
Edited on Sat Apr-23-11 07:53 AM by emanymton
.

Let us not get too deep into the forest. The 'Rachel Maddow' show is talking truth to power "in a time of universal deceit." Her telling the truth is a revolutionary act (as George Orwell put it). I support her actions and want her show to succeed.

Does any one honestly believe should she become noticed to the general public, she (and her show) will be tolerated?

Regardless, keep firing Rachel Maddow.

That "Rachel Maddow is firing on all burners"? You spoil what you thought was a pun with your first sentence. That's where you are spreading fear.

30. It isn't the audience who's slow. Once you saw from the reactions just how badly your OP had failed,
you should have deleted it yourself -- which would have been much better than an "apology" that sounds condescending and is buried in a reply. I hope this topic will be locked soon so it won't continue wasting people's time and upsetting some who didn't get your "pun" that didn't work.

However, if they do, there is room for her I'm sure at KO's new digs, Current TV, or Free Speech TV with Thom Hartmann, Laura Flanders and Amy Goodman.
