Pope Ratz: Humanity isn't random product of evolution
VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Benedict XVI marked the holiest night of the year for Christians by stressing that humanity isn't a random product of evolution.

Benedict emphasized the Biblical account of creation in his Easter Vigil homily Saturday, saying it was wrong to think at some point "in some tiny corner of the cosmos there evolved randomly some species of living being capable of reasoning and of trying to find rationality within creation, or to bring rationality into it."

"If man were merely a random product of evolution in some place on the margins of the universe, then his life would make no sense or might even be a chance of nature," he said. "But no, reason is there at the beginning: creative, divine reason."

Church teaching holds that Roman Catholicism and evolutionary theory are not necessarily at odds: A Christian can, for example, accept the theory of evolution to help explain developments, but is taught to believe that God, not random chance, is the origin of the world. The Vatican, however, warns against creationism, or the overly literal interpretation of the Bibilical account of creation. ..............(more)

So, Ratzo, you need to rely on the god of the gaps argument? How sad.

5. After all, random chance couldn't have made Altar Boys so appealing to Priests.
Why does anyone listen to that putz, on anything, ever?

6. Well *obviously*
Shit does not get this fucked up by simple chance and coin tosses. No. Humankind was designed by a committee. Of experts.

7. In all fariness, this is much more progessive than the
the literal creationist view of most fundamentalist churches. I'm just saying accepting evolution as the means for how God created the universe is the best you can expect from a religion, otherwise it would cease to be religion if it gave up its belief in God.

....it doesn't make any sense....to live by killing is an inherently goofy concept....

10. Hey what can I say?
Anyhow so far we have found, so far, quite possibly, 53 exoplanets that may be habitable. Our sensors are to the point of may... Given the last ten years of Exo Planet research and sensors, many world religions will face a nasty one of these days (in my lifetime)

And I cannot wait... especially these bronze age religions.

Though to the credit of the Catholic Church (last pope, not this one) they have gotten ahead of that little problem... and accepted that life is possible, even godly, off this little blue spot we call home.

Humanity is the naturally selected product of evolution. Nothing random about it.

13. The world was obviously created by a stupid, malevolent superhuman deity.
This deity created parasites that eat their hosts from the inside out, traumatic insemination, and an entire universe in which sentient beings kill and eat other sentient beings, who vigorously reject being killed and eaten.

This fundamental malevolence of the universe is why you must suck priests.
