New definition of "political correctness" (received in email)
"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

1. The problem with that is it fails to define "turd".
Political correctness came in when one turd could be stereotyped as common to all in a group. So all members of the group were turds and anything I could say about my one example turd I could say about everyone in the group.

Additionally there were examples of turds in other groups but the turd was never used to symbolize the entire group.

In short "which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end." does not pass the smell test. A turd is a turd except when it isn't due to poor inference. That is the history.

So if people could discuss turds without giving in to their desire to make a turd symbolic of a rose, we wouldn't have political correctness today.

2. Nicely stated and welcome to DU
Indeed, most of the railing against so-called political correctness is done by folks who want to be able to say retard or nigger again without marking themselves out as hopeless nincompoops.

4. I Know That Guy is Trying to Sound Like Ambrose Bierce,
but...FAIL! The definition doesn't even make sense from the author's own viewpoint.

Besides, "politically correct" originally referred to leftists who felt it necessary on general principles to be apologists for Stalin.

6. This from the right, who takes every opportunity to get its panties in a bunch over anything
Oh my God what comes from these hypocrites.

The party of "freedom fries" complains about people trying to control language!

First off, and PLEASE understand this - the WHOLE ISSUE about "Political Correctness" is SIMPLE: they want to freely use the "N" word.

It's really that simple. They just can't wrap their heads around how black people can say it, but white people CAN'T. They don't get it.

Once you understand that about the right, then this PC thing starts to fall into place.

But how "easy going" is the right about words and terms?

Let's not forget that IT'S THE RIGHT who boycotted the Dixie Chicks because of what they said about Bush. (evoking the unwritten "Clinton college protest rule" that you can't speak against the US if you're not here).

Then they get all upset because Kerry literally misspoke ONE WORD out of a speech.

Then they have their President in office, ANY criticism of him or his policies is an attack on our troops.

People who don't wear the right pin on the right side, use the right salute, bow the right amount, etc are strongly attacked.

There are many other examples, maybe I should start a catalog, but the point is that they're only too happy to invoke the "PC" when it works to their advantage....

8. Political correctness is simply good manners. Which is why the turds on the right
don't get it because they only have extremely bad manners. Along with stupidity. And cruelty.

9. The left dropped pc back in the 70's, but the right is still harping about it.
