Bus driver fired over Planned Parenthood assignment reaches settlement
A settlement has been reached in a case involving a bus driver who was fired for refusing to drive two women to a Planned Parenthood clinic.

Edwin Graning, 63, has been awarded $21,000 from the Capital Area Rural Transportation System, or CARTS. He was driving for the public bus service when he refused the Planned Parenthood assignment.

Graning says it was for religious reasons. He is an ordained Christian minister. Graning said he was concerned that he might be transporting a client to undergo an abortion.

1. Can an ambulence driver not take you to the hospital if you have an imaginary friend?
Why does this douche bag get any input on where some one gets off is bus?

2. If this guy needs emergency medical treatment......
Can a member of one of those fanatical Christian sects refuse to drive
him to a hospital if he believe that man-made medical treatment goes
against the will of God? According to him, apparently so. If he has
a problem with that, he can tell it to Saint Peter.

5. Hell, why not just refuse to drive anyone anywhere
because they could be sinning at their apartment, on the sidewalk, in a store, in an alleyway...anywhere. Then sue and get paid for doing nothing!

7. Here is another link with more information. He can't be rehired. The only reason he can think of to
go to PP is to get an abortion? Good grief what an ignorant asshole.

(clip)System board members said they agreed to settle after determining that the cost of defending the suit could exceed the settlement amount.

(clip)
After Graning was dispatched to take the women to Planned Parenthood in January 2010, he called his supervisor "and told her that, in good conscience, he could not take someone to have an abortion," his lawsuit said. The women's names, their location and the clinic location were not included in the lawsuit. Planned Parenthood also provides health care services unrelated to abortion.

The settlement bars Graning from seeking employment again with the transportation system.

David Marsh , general manager of the Capital Area Rural Transportation System, said that because of Graning's case, officials have begun making it clear when drivers are hired "that we have a job to do and we don't decide what destinations are. I think Mr. Graning was sincere in his beliefs, and we never questioned that," Marsh said. "It's just that we are in the business of providing transportation."...(more)
