Lesbian cadet gives up fight against military academy
Source: Associated Press

A FORMER cadet rejected for re-admission to a US military academy because of that country's lingering "don't ask, don't tell" policy is giving up on her dream of graduating.

Katherine Miller has said she plans to graduate from Yale University, which she's now attending, instead of the prestigious West Point academy and then join the military through officer candidate school.

"Although I am deeply saddened that I will not be readmitted to West Point, I understand and respect the decision," said the 21-year-old.

She said that although she had always wanted to serve alongside her comrades as an equal, "I harbour no resentment toward the military and I look forward to the day they deem it appropriate for me to put the uniform back on."

1. She's a better person than me...
cause I don't respect their decision at all.

Can't they apply some reason and logic here?

4. Better, or dumber?
The US military isn't a partner who accidently did something to hurt your feelings, and now you're being asked to forgive them. She's a fucking idiot, as far as I'm concerned. She says she respects their decision while they continue to tell her that she's a less than equal human being? "I know you only hit me 'cause you love me, baby." Fuck that. Maybe they just deserve each other, but I'd rather she wise up.

11. It is foolish to blame the military for this policy
DADT was passed by a Democratic-controlled Congress and signed by President Clinton in 1993.

13. just give her the option of deferring readmission until after DADT is off the books completely
it's not that hard.

10. It's worth noting that the military doesn't set policy
so while the military brass may also dislike homosexuals, that is not evident from this policy.

If you recall that was put in place by Congress after being put forward by Clinton.

8. No they can't
You cant blame USMA for the messed up DADT policy. Until the offical policy is changed, they cannot admit a openly lesbian cadet. I don't agree with the policy, but you cannot blame the Academy. Katie Miller came out publicy as a lesbian, while as a Cadet. The Academy had no choice but to discharge her, under the DADT policy that existed at that time and which is still in effect.
