We just joined and so far it seems very progressive. They are all over the R plan to cut Medicare.

Thoughts from others?

1. They swung on big pharma meat

2. They sold out to the Medicare drug bill. Use them for what they are worth but do not believe they

are leftist

3. Back in the 1970s, we thought of them as the GOP's aging advocates.

And they did support Part D -- at which point I quit AARP.

But they later repented for that support.

And the current attacks that include attacking programs for the aged DO have them up in arms.

(Conflict of interest note: I have had a research project funded by them.)

5. I recently joined

because I was hearing how horrible they were from RW hate mongers (I do listen to talk radio on occasion).

Figured if those venal cretins hated them so much, there must be at least some good to be found.

they have their roots in the insurance industry, although I don't have any documentation to back that up. That said, I've been a member for twenty-five years.

12. I rejoined a while ago

I had been a member years ago and disliked what I read in their publication. I let my membership lapse.

What I read now is generally much more to my taste. They've changed a lot since I was in before.
