Westboro Church Pickets Plane Crash Victims Funeral

HOLTON, Kan.—
The small town of Holton, Kansas, gathered on Wednesday to say goodbye to a family of four who died in a small plane crash near Topeka last week.

But as mourners gatherd for the funeral, members of the Westboro Baptist Church decided that it would be a good time to spread their own message nearby.

The Spencer family, Richard Dylan Spencer, 35, his wife Amy Beth Spencer, 34, and their daughters Chase Spencer, 7, and Ansley Spencer, 5, were all killed when their single-engine aircraft crashed into a muddy field just west of Perry Lake last Friday. Authorities say that the pilot gave no distress calls, and was turning around for a second approach after a missed first landing approach. A witness heard the engine sputter before the plane went down.

On Wednesday, Holton citizens banded together to shield mourners from the Phelps family, which runs the notorious church known for protesting the funerals of U.S. service members killed overseas. In Holton, the Phelps' were met with counter-demonstrators.

They have a fake church, they protest most distastefully in order to invite and incite violence against them and the family are all lawyers, so they litigate against the people who they incited using the first amendment and their non-profit church status to take the cash and keep it all, paying nothing to the tax man.

11. Cities need to be smarter about the protest permits.

The purpose of the permit is to regulate access to the limited public resources (space). Since two groups cannot use the same space (cemetery and its access points) at the same time, give the protesters the time slot for after the funeral has finished when no one will be there.
