Didn't Conservatives learn the last time around that attacking the President's privacy...
Edited on Thu Apr-28-11 09:36 PM by Bicoastal
...will only backfire? Especially because Conservatives loudly claim to want the Government to keep its big nose out of their affairs?

They did this to Clinton. They wanted to know every single thing, every small, inconsequential detail, about his sexual behavior in the White House, all under the heading of "The People Want to Know." So what happened? Newt lost his job as Speaker, while Clinton left office once of the most popular Presidents of all time.

So they're doing it again, and this time, the current President has done absolutely nothing to merit a breach of privacy of the magnitude which they're asking. Having seen the unofficial official birth certificate, now Trump and Co. want to see college transcripts! Term Papers! Harvard Law Review Articles! Passports! Drivers Licenses! Social Security Cards! etc...

...but the thing they fail to realize is the more the conservatives DEMAND (by some God-given-right) this kind of thing, the more people will sympathize with the President. Americans don't LIKE having their lives scrutized so closely, even if (like the President) they have very little to hide from the world--for the same reason that they don't want Airport security seeing under their clothes. And when authority figures intimate that if we had nothing to hide, we'd surrender every piece of paper in our possession over to them, even the most clean-living among us bristle. Even Republicans--or should I say, ESPECIALLY Republicans.

So let them keep yelling (nonsensically) "We don't know anything ABOUT him!" What they're clearly saying is "We don't know everything about him!" Well, we don't know everything about our own friends, family, and loved ones. Donald Trump has not yet sent a photocopy of his mother's passport to every news agency to be diced and analyzed--so does that make Mrs. Trump a drug-dealer? A foreign national? A sexual deviant? Or just another citizen desiring that most cherished of all conservatives--the right to have a separate, private life?

2. And unlike Bill Clinton, Obama's personal life is impeccable
He's been married to the same woman for 19 years without a hint of infidelity; you don't see Obama divorcing his wife while she is dying of cancer, or failing at marriage twice, like some people.

3. Sadly, I doubt the faux tv & talk radio audience...
make the connection. THEY deserve privacy, but do not believe Other People on the Other Side do.

4. I was thinking this very thing today - how the attacks on Clinton backfired
"So what happened? Newt lost his job as Speaker, while Clinton left office once of the most popular Presidents of all time."

Even if I don't like some of Obamas policies, what they're trying to do makes me feel even more like I should "have Obama's back" so to speak.
