County Won't Force Voters To Wear Ponchos At Polls
MARIETTA, Ohio — Washington County officials on Thursday said they won't force some voters to wear ponchos on Election Day, reversing an earlier decision.
Earlier this month, the Washington County Board of Elections said it would make people who wore clothing in support of the schools put on rain ponchos to cover the messages.
Election officials said they were concerned that the clothing could influence voters during an election with several school levies on the ballot.
Washington County reversed its decision after learning from the Ohio Secretary of State that wearing school clothing does not violate election rules.
