I'd rather watch American Idol than some royal wedding
Honestly.

The royals hold zero interest for me. When I think of the concept of royalty, it turns me off. To me its basically like a dog show, and the more pure bred you are the better you do at show. Its total nonsense to be honest. And when you consider genetics an important factor in ones worth or place in the world, you start to enter dangerous territory. Like, wasn't Hitler into that crap? Creating a super race through pure genetic bloodlines? Fuck that.

So I say bring on American Idol, where participants are rewarded for their efforts rather than for their bloodlines.

11. Hmm, would I rather eat broken glass or be raped by a cactus?
That's a hard decision. But yeah, I heard a bit on NPR about how only natural decendants are in line of royal succession and that adopted offspring don't count. They want to make sure only pure Germans rule England. This is, of course, in direct contradiction of the Roman custom where adopted heirs were treated as natural decendants. Augustus only became emperor because Julius Caesar adopted him in his will. If it's any consolation, this is probably the last harrah for British royalty.

37. Wow, it's profoundly shameful how clueless you are
Do you see Snooki raising millions of dollars for such causes as AIDs, Homeless, and the Environment?

Do you see Kim K. spending time sleeping on the streets with other homeless people so she can better understand their plight (and then using her name to help raise money for the homeless).

Did either Snooki or Kim K spend time in Africa helping to feed the hungry?

Look, I understand there are alot of royals in this world that clearly are no better that Kim or Snooki but Prince William was not raised that way. He is clearly his mother's son - someone who will not be happy just lounging around polishing the royal jewels. He knows his name attached to a charity will not only help raise awareness but also raise alot of money to boot. He is involved in countless projects, many of them inspired by his mother, who was also a tireless worker for charities.

15. rewarded for their efforts with a 10 YEAR contract
Whether they make it big or not - they have to give a chunk of their earnings to AI. Can you say indentured servitude?

Personally, the royal wedding has far more going for it, in terms of history and heritage. American Idol is a for-profit company, taking advantage of ALL kids who wish to be *stars*. The way they *showcase* even the untalented ones shows just how cravenly capitalistic their producers are.

You go right ahead badmouthing a brit tradition while watching elites make money off desperate artists willing to be used and abused.

American Idol is FAR more offensive than any wedding put on in England.

You make it sound like he's some shifter that just drinks all the time and spends money.

But he spends most of his time between serving his country and working his charitable events. He's done alot more humanity then the lot of American Idol contestants rolled into one.

And for some of us we just enjoy the weddings - does that make us bad folks?

Its the whole royalty thing that I have a problem with.

And come on, this guy has lived in obscene luxury from day one out of no credit of his own. Charitable events are the least he can do to try and pay back the citizens of the UK who support him and his family!

38. I respect the fact that a slew of Royals deserve the criticism you might heap on them
Prince Williams is not one of those people. He mother raised both him and his brother from an early age that it was their duty to use their position to help raise money and awareness for great causes. I still remember the big stink when Princess Diana took her boys to an AIDs ward - at the time, people still had a big fear about AIDs and thought she was putting the boys at risk but instead she opened the worlds eyes to see that there was nothing to be afraid of.

I'm not a royal expert but I have read alot about this kid since the engagement and he has definately walked the walked. I respect the fact that people aren't interested in this wedding - that's one thing. But to lump this kid in with a bunch of reality TV show contestants or other no-nothing celebrities is not right.

In his short time he's done alot of good work and he's also a part of the military too (although his choices are limited because of his royal status but Harry did serve in Afghanistan).

45. And...
I've heard that William and Kate are not going to live in a palace surrounded by servants...that they'll actually be doing many, if not all, of their own chores.

I really believe that William will try to find a balance in his life. He was raised to be King someday, but he was also raised by Diana to be humble in the face of the role he must fill someday.

But that's just me.

It's escapism for many. I guess we can swoon over William's charity work or Kate's dress and the fact that she is a commoner. That might take our collective minds off the fact that 200+ people lost their lives two days ago in the South.

I can weep for the tornado victims AND celebrate two lovely young people in love. I got to watch history today in a tradition both ancient and beautiful ( although antler girl's hat made me LOL). I'm with LynneSin on this one, these are decent people and William was raised to a life of service.

I cannot live tragedy, war, poverty, disaster 24/7, just can't do it or I will lose my mind.

who he obviously adores. He is definitely his mother's son and his mum would have loved that young lady too. I thought the whole thing was just magnificent. It made me sad that Diana couldn't be there. :(
