Bachmann backing away from GOP Medicare plan?
Source: Raw Story
By Sahil Kapur

WASHINGTON – The constituent anger over the GOP-approved blueprint to erode Medicare is enough to make any Republican squeamish, but the latest sirens of concern comes from an unlikely source: Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN).

The tea party darling, an unabashed supporter of hard-right causes, took to the conservative blog RedState.com on Thursday to sound off on the tax-cutting virtues of House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan's (R-WI) proposal -- and then she reminded people how much she values Medicare, the government-run, single payer health insurance program for seniors.

"I supported that budget blueprint, though I've expressed caution about how we approach the issue of Medicare," Bachmann wrote. "We must keep our promises to those who receive Medicare benefits, and those who are nearing the age of Medicare eligibility. Our challenge is to reduce the soaring amounts that government spends on health care, without burdening those who are most vulnerable."

1. Lots of Medicare recipients in her district, and even more who
are looking ahead to it in not too many years. I think she's covering her bases, in case she decides to run again for that seat instead of going all in.

Nasty piece of work, that one...

2. Sounds like she's on board with Ryan. Only concerned about the senior vote in 2012.

7. The traditional Ur-Republican plan is to shoot the elderly when they become sick
and say they "went to live on a farm upstate." So yeah, Michele wouldn't want to look like she was going softy on that Medicare is Socialism thing. The purists might catch her out one night in the cornfield and she'd fall in a hole or something.
