Duke of Cambridge or Duke of Bilgewater - all the same to me.

1. We have an old family story
that in the 1700's one of our ancestors was "royalty" in Germany and became disgruntled with the rest of them royals. He led a rebellion against them and lost horribly. Who knows if its true but if it is I have German Royal blood in my lol.

though they were Lords. However, the family left England a very long time ago (like 400 years). He could care less. I am a historian, so I find it fascinating.

6. Well, my ancester was the Duke of Albemarle.
One of the Eight Lords and Proprietors of the Carolinas. Also largely responsible for the Declaration of Breda (establishing the compromise of the Constitutional Monarchy of England-Restoration of Charles II through his communications with him). My family's coat of arms can be seen in Eastern North Carolina on historical highway markers. He was also a General and had command of the Admiralty. Albemarle Sound in NC is named after him. Do you think the state will give us our land back or did the revolution make that null and void?

7. if I only had the land my ancestors owned....
..I would hold a large part of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York (including part of lower Manhattan), New Jersey, and more. Damn it all. I would settle for the riverfront properties on the Connecticut River.

Most of us are simply interested in our family history. My father's family was a bunch of potato farmers in Ireland. Are you happy now, knowing some of us are peasants?

13. Well people get all impressed when I tell them one of my ancestors
was a "King's Daughter" back in France.

Till I tell them that she, and other young women who were widowed or orphaned, were sponsored by King Louis XIV for the trip to New France (Canada) to marry the men who had no "real" French wives and had taken to marrying into the local native population.

They were called Filles du Roi

Not sure about the "Lord" thing... But I can, by stright line from my grandmothers side, go back to 1350... My uncle who are somewhat of a local historican, have discovered that we have been on the same county, since at least 1350... So my roots here I live, are at least 661 year old...

But that's actually an old genealogist's trick; most West Europeans are descended from Charlemagne.

Most of my ancestors were Joe-the-Shit-Shoveler types; they at least made an honest living, rather than rampaging around the countryside bashing peasants on the head.
