Why Isn't Anyone Targeting The Tax Cuts For The Wealthy
as part of balancing the budget? Rationally I would think the public would like this idea.

2. The vast majority of Americans love the idea...
about 80% I believe I heard. But we are going into an election cycle and the politicians are more fearful of losing the big money contributors than they are of losing the votes. With money they can buy the ads that distract the electorate from what really needs to be done.

3. Grover Norquist
and his 'contract with America.'

It's part of the plan to destroy the social safety net and let the rich get richer by making the poor poorer.

4. Yes, but we are no longer a Democracy.
So, what the people want is of no import to our semi-elected politicians. Now, what the corporations want is another matter.

And if congress and the supposed Democratic President wont give in to everything corporations have a hard on for, well they can always get the Dancing Supremes to write laws from the bench, yet again.

No, Virginia, there is no democracy in the US.

5. Because nearly half of the people in congress are part of the wealthy,
and they are not going to do anything to aggravate their country club buddies.

And, most will be reelected for multiple terms, and people will say about each and every one "Well, my senator (or house member) is not like that. He's one of the good ones."

7. a combination of election year politics and the 2 year extension that passed in Dec.

I think that adding additional brackets for the higher income groups would be the way to go for now, but what do I know.

That and addressing the "Big Picture" of regressive v. progressive economic policies and comparing the 30 years before Reagan took office (progressive) with the 30 years after Reagan first took office (regressive).

8. The Progressive Congressional Caucus bill does
But it gets no media attention. It deserves some, as it balances the budget in 10 years. It should at least be a starting point for Democrats to fight with to get something resembling what the people actually want and what will really work.
The name "The Peoples' Budget" apparently causes some to call it socialist without actually reading or mentioning the content of the bill. Well, republicans refer to "the people" and "we the people" all the time to justify their attack on the people. The real adults (if any are left in the media) should be able to focus on content.

Finally , yesterday there was a little notice.
