WaPo: The Red Hen Restaurant owner speaks up almost a year after asking Sarah Sanders to leave

Resistance isn't Futile.

I’ve been getting hate mail for almost a year now, ever since I asked White House press secretary Sarah Sanders to leave my Lexington, Va., restaurant, the Red Hen, last June.

At the time, the country was in turmoil over the Trump administration’s heinous practice of separating children from their parents at our southern border. In our tiny 26-seat restaurant, the horror felt simultaneously immediate and far away.

Faced with the prospect of serving a fine meal to a person whose actions in the service of our country we felt violated basic standards of humanity, we balked. We couldn’t do it.

In the days following, I tried to balance fears for the safety of my family and staff against the reality of being well-protected in a small, loving community. Overhanging it all was a sense that I’d seen this show before; don’t we all have ringside seats to the outrage circus these days? But there was plenty I couldn’t predict or assess: How likely was it, really, that the guy texting me from a Minneapolis area code was really going to come to town to set fire to our restaurant? It felt impossible to know.

There's a happy ending, and I won't spoil it for you here, other than to say that the Red Hen Restaurant is still in business.

If you can't get past the pay-wall, I'll try to add a few more great quotes in the comments.

NOW THIS: A "Glaring Double-Standard Which Is Nothing Short of Incredible"

"A new supercut video shows Fox News hosts slamming former President Barack Obama for the same actions that they either ignore or praise when it comes to President Donald Trump."

The only suggestion I would make is to change the background music. To something more appropriate, like "Yakety Sax" (The Benny Hill Show theme) for instance.

If you're unable to view the Twitter-link video, it's also available at Huffington Post.

Boomers! Remember this? Everyone else: check it out!

From the description by "Rhino" on YouTube:
You're watching the official music video for Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - "Teach Your Children" written by Graham Nash. Originally released on the 1970 CSNY studio album "Deja Vu", "Teach Your Children" is featured on a 2018 Graham Nash career retrospective entitled "Over The Years..."

"I'm ____, and I approved this message."

A technician from the home security company I use was at my house today, and I heard his smart phone play an unusual tone: “I’m (cadet bone spurs) and I approved this message.” Apparently, someone just sent him a text message, and he’d programmed his phone to play that sound clip whenever a message is received. Very clever for a drumpf-humper!

Because I needed him to finish the installation, I decided that — since discretion is the better part of valor — I’d valiantly ignore it for the time being.

And after he left, it occurred to me: let’s fight fire with fire (instead of ire). Why don’t we program our phones to play a similar tone when a text message arrives?

So here’s my idea: in replies to this post, please include a link to your favorite Democratic candidate saying s/he approved “this message.” And then program your phone to play it with your incoming texts. The links should include a downloadable MP3 file which could be copied and converted to a tone playable on various devices.

Let’s show others that we’re just as clever as — and even more resourceful than — people who (blindly) follow the inevitable 2020 presidential opponent!

Feeling nostalgic: Obama's best Comebacks and Rebuttal Moments, Vol.s 1, 2 and 3

Two years ago, liberalnarb posted one of these video clips here; THANK YOU FOR THAT. I hadn't seen it then, but this morning all three popped up on my YouTube feed.

It's well worth the time to watch all of them, although I must add a caution: Vol. 1 includes some exchanges between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama during their campaign lo these many years ago.

In contrast to what we're seeing and hearing from the illegitimate occupier of the Oval Office, these are most refreshing.
