Buried in an article about Eloon, his MOTHER is sitting in on his DOGE meetings

Musk’s Slashing of the Federal Budget Faces Big Hurdles

NYT non-paywalled link: https://archive.is/wJ1f6

See the bold text below. And pardon me while I 🤮.

The so-called Department of Government Efficiency, with Elon Musk as co-leader, has advantages that past budget-cutters did not, but laws and court challenges can still make change slow and difficult.

SNIP

In Silicon Valley, tech leaders are eagerly seeking positions or introductions to the department, even though for now it is not an actual part of government, but a loose grouping that Elon Musk named after an internet meme. On his social media platform, X, Mr. Musk posted a “Godfather”-style photo of himself as the “Dogefather,” asking government employees, “What did you get done this week?”

SNIP

Members of Congress — even Democratic ones — have been offering up ideas for where to cut what Mr. Musk said could be $2 trillion out of the budget.

“It’s going to be very easy,” Elon Musk’s mother, Maye Musk, told Fox News on Tuesday, after she sat in on some of her son’s meetings. Mr. Musk will lead the department along with Vivek Ramaswamy, a former Republican presidential candidate.

Where's JD?

I mean, I don't care where he is, but it's very strange to me Eloon is sucking all the "vice-presidential" vibes out of the air. Oh wait. I guess the space nazi man-baby is the co-president.

Trump Voters Suddenly Very Worried About Tariffs

God speaks over on Substack: https://www.thegodpodcast.com/p/trump-supporters-suddenly-very-worried

Dear Humans,

Criminal president Donold Trump announced yesterday on his website LiesSocial that he will use executive orders to charge Canada and Mexico a 25% tariff on goods. The fucking moron is actually going to do it.

Over on Reddit in r/conservative, posters were quite concerned that their chosen candidate and cult leader might actually fulfill his campaign promises.

BEHOLD THEIR ANGUISHED LAMENTS!

Did anyone ever hear from tblue37?

Their last post was in early October. I know someone else was asking too.

Oh Look, It Was Trivial To Buy Troop And Intelligence Officer Location Data From Dodgy, Unregulated Data Brokers

OP note: We already know this is happening. The interesting part of this article is about the dangers and widespread nature of ad surveillance.

https://www.techdirt.com/2024/11/22/oh-look-it-was-trivial-to-buy-troop-and-intelligence-officer-location-data-from-dodgy-unregulated-data-brokers/

There are two major reasons that the U.S. doesn’t pass an internet-era privacy law or regulate data brokers despite a parade of dangerous scandals. One, lobbied by a vast web of interconnected industries with unlimited budgets, Congress is too corrupt to do its job. Two, the U.S. government is disincentivized to do anything because it exploits this privacy dysfunction to dodge domestic surveillance warrants.

If we imposed safeguards on consumer data, everybody from app makers to telecoms would make billions less per quarter. So our corrupt lawmakers pretend the vast human harms of our greed are a distant and unavoidable externality. Unless the privacy issues involve some kid tracking rich people on their planes, of course, in which case Congress moves with a haste that would break the sound barrier.

So as a result, we get a steady stream of scandals related to the over-collection and monetization of wireless location data, posing no limit of public safety, market trust, or national security issues. Including, for example, stalkers using location data to track and harm women. Or radical right wing extremists using it to target vulnerable abortion clinic visitors with health care disinformation.

Another stupid election results question: Is Tim Walz still MN Governor?

I never knew whether he had to step down to run as VPOTUS. Sorry I'm way behind the results thing.

Stupid question: What happened in the election for the "Black Nazi" guy?

I was unable to keep up with any returns (to the preservation of my sanity), and I forgot to check the outcome of that race. I don't remember his name or state, just that he thought women should learn to keep their skirts down.

What will happen to our national park lands?

I guess we have a clue from what happened to Escalante last time. 😭

I guess this time they'll be too scared not to feature Melanoma on Vogue

Guess we won't see the rogue twitter accounts for the cabinet departments. Guess the Mall will be wall to wall for this inauguration.

Safari/iOS: Buttons, links, tabs, back button stop working multiple times per day

When browsing and/or posting/replying, the browser just stops working. Pages won't advance. Comments or replies won't post. Totally non-responsive. The only recovery seems to be to kill the browser session and log in again. I've done as much troubleshooting as I can on my end, but this only happens on DU (and not other sites I access from my phone). I always browse in private windows and I use a VPN. But this has been my browsing profile for years on DU. This issue only came up starting a few months ago. Any ideas? Any other phone users having similar issues?
