dismissed the idea that money in campaigns leads to corruption. So add Citizens United, along with the tossing out pre-clearance with the Voting Rights Act decision because we elected a black president and are now a post-racial society, to the list of SCOTUS fails. ( I forget the name of the VRA case).
As a criminal defense attorney, I find Roberts's behavior disturbing. They have a problem with
what a “reasonable person” standard would understand the words to mean. Roberts and crew are talking about “overly-sensitive people” who, by definition, are not reasonable persons in this instance. What is more important, the intent of the defendant or how the victims perceived the unwanted communication? What is equally disturbing is this line in the story, “progressive justices did little to push back against the chief justice’s snickering tone.” What a F’ed up SCOTUS we have. And, generally I support the ACLU but it seems to be on the wrong side of the case here
I went to a private Cathlouc High School at the same time as Kavenaugh although my
the school was co-ed. I asked my future wife to the Junior prom. I was a highly regarded football player because I matured early and was a boy in a man’s body. More than once, I had to tune up guys like Kavanaugh tried to grab and paw at my then-girlfriend. It was a classic jock meets beautiful science room girl. Once we went to the prom, nobody dared touch her. However, trapping girls in cars while grabbing and molesting them was a common occurrence. This was happening at one of the most highly regarded private high schools in South Jersey. “Boof” and “The Renata Club,” I can look at my yearbook and find references to similar types of behavior in my high school. And, as an attorney, if I acted in court as Kavanaugh did at his confirmation hearing, I would have been cited and punished for ethical violations, bit to mention all the lies he spewed. He is a total disgrace and doesn't being in the USSC.
Great story. Aunt Vicki and her and Alito's bogus fight for "religious liberty". These RWNJs are
confused about the Constitution, free speech and religious liberty that they have twisted themselves in knots. In a mind-boggling example of mass protection, RWNJ, Christian Nationalists, and Evangelicals are victims of persecution by the wokism and LGBTQ community that they were about it any chance they get while at the same time imposing their religious beliefs on all of us by a captured and corrupt USSC. Biden is best at trolling the right.
Tribe on "The Last Word" suggested that the House vote to impeach TFG is sufficient grounds to
exclude Trump given the bipartisan comments of Republicans who said while Trump was responsible for inciting the insurrection it made no sense to remove him from office as his term was up anyway.
I suspect the courts could conclude that if it was the intent of Congress to bar TFG from future office they would have convicted him in the Senate. So we have the Jan 6 committee's investigation and findings of fact along with a unanimous bi-partisan vote to criminally refer him to the DOJ along with his 2nd impeachment by the House, sure seems like enough to invoke the 14th Amend to bar TFG from future office.
Really good shows on YouTube about the chip industry and how ASML in the Netherlands builds the
Fabs with components from all over the world. It's a brief, very good history of ASML and TSMC and the mind-boggling process that manufacture advanced microchips. Worth a watch. When they talk about billions of transistors created by lasers bouncing off mirrors it really is a miracle. Watch and be amazed at how chips are made.
I was born in the early 60's and grew up watching WWII movies, shows, and documentaries like World
At War so the horrors of the Holocaust and Hitler were not far removed from our conscience. I wonder if most people under 30 can even identify who was fighting who in WWII. Off topic, but family legend says my father's first cousin was with Patton during the war. My father always thought it was an exaggeration but his cousin who was the first host of Entertainment Tonight type show traces his father's movement during WWII and found a picture of his father standing next to Patton with a rifle with a google search. It's part of the Getty collection. So the legend was true. Just thought that was interesting.
Maybe he should watch a Tik-Tok on what is Congress? They really are that stupid.
For the record, Congress has two parts, the Senate and the House of Representatives. Congress meets in the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, DC. just in case Kevin asks.
Talk about the end of Democracy starting slowly and dying rapidly, the USSC lost all legitimacy over
the span of several weeks handing down one outrageous opinion after another. While many lower federal courts held and protected the Constitution from Trump, radical state legislatures, and RWNJs, SCOTUS crumbled like a cheap suit and lost all sense of dignity and legitimacy.
SCOTUS made carrying guns a whole lot easier. NJ used to issue about 2,000 carry permits a year. Now
after USSC ruled states can't make overly restrictive carry laws, tens of thousands of people have applied for a carry permit. If Dems ever get in a position of power they must reform SCOTUS who has tossed this country into chaos with its radical departure from precedent. SCOTUS is the most illegitimate part of our government and we cannot continue to allow these hateful, Christian Nazis to continue to impose their twisted and hateful views on American society.
