Ohh, I didn't know this about Maggie Haberman -

@KaivanShroff

Dark irony to Maggie Haberman’s latest puff-piece about Ivanka and Jared is the doubling of nepotism in her own story. Her father has worked for NYTimes for over 4 decades. Her mother did Comms for both the Trumps & Kushners. Stunning the Times feels no need to make this clear.

Trump wants to visit Putin in Russia? I'm fine with it.

Just as long as he STAYS there.

Things apparently haven't improved at the border

Congresswoman Karen Bass:

Just got back from Texas.

Families are still being separated.
Parents are still being deported.
Children are still in cages.

Congress has ONE WEEK to pass our bill to reunify these families before going on a month-long break.

Yeah, but what's IN the FISA warrant?

This is a great timeline of the warrants (and thanks to kpete for posting the first tweet in his OP here https://www.democraticunderground.com/100210908903):

FISA COURT WARRANT APPLICATIONS
FOR
CARTER PAGE

CONTENTS THREAD

DOCUMENT LINK:
int.nyt.com/data/documenth…

There are FOUR DOCUMENTS within this 412 page PDF:
The original warrant application and four subsequent renewal applications.

1/x
FISA
=
Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act

FISA allows the U.S. govt to perform surveillance on American citizens, with the submission of info about why it is necessary and the approval of the submitted info by a special court, the Federal Intelligence Surveillance Court.

2/x
The original FISA warrant application to surveil Carter Page was submitted in October 2016, before the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

It begins on page one and continues through page 83 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…).

3/x

On page 32 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…), you can find the "conclusion" section or the original warrant application:

"The FBI believes Page has been collaborating and conspiring with the Russian Government..."

4/x

On page 63 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…), you can see the original FISA application was submitted in October 2016 by then FBI Director @Comey:

5/x

On page 65 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…), you can see then Acting Director of the Department of Justice @SallyQYates signed off on Comey's application in October 2016, which moved the application along to the FISA court:

6/x

On page 83 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…), Judge Rosemary M. Collyer approved the original October 2016 application for the surveillance warrant on Carter Page:

7/x

Now we have reached the expiration of the initial October 2016 FISA application on Carter Page.

On page 84 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…), the January 2017 renewal application begins and continues through page 181.

(Trump has not yet been inaugurated.)

8/x

On page 127 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…), you can find the "conclusion" section of the renewal application:

"The FBI believes Page has been collaborating and conspiring with the Russian Government..."

9/x

On page 159 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…), you can see this FISA renewal application was also submitted in January 2017 by then FBI Director Comey.

10/x

On page 161 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…), you can see then Acting Director of the Department of Justice Sally Yates signed off on the January 2017 renewal application submitted by Comey:

11/x

Given the names of other potential signatories shown on the signature pages of the first renewal application for the FISA warrant on Carter Page, it appears that application went forward pre-Inauguration, when Obama was still POTUS.

12/x

On page 181 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…), Judge Michael W. Mosman approved the first renewal FISA warrant application for the surveillance warrant on Carter Page:

13/x

(I know these details are a bit tedious, but they are important. Bear with me. These details are critical in showing the narrative of Trump, his campaign, his administration, and the Republican enablers for the lie that it is.)

14/x
On January 30, 2017, Trump FIRED Acting AG @SallyQYates, ostensibly over the Muslim Ban.

Yates signed off on the first two FISA apps about Carter Page, and Trump would have had access by this time to the information about the FBI investigation.

15/x
Trump Fires Acting Attorney General Who Defied Him
The acting attorney general, Sally Q. Yates, on Monday ordered government lawyers not to defend President Trump’s executive order on immigration in court.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/30/us/politics/trump-immigration-ban-memo.html
On or around January 27, 2017, Trump had the dinner with @Comey in which Trump famously asked Comey to pledge "loyalty" to him:

16/x
What Really Happened at the Trump-Comey Dinner?
With two conflicting accounts of a meeting, the president says the FBI director “better hope that there are no ‘tapes.’”
https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/05/trump-comey-dinner-tapes-nixon/526449/
If Trump had seen the materials related to the FISA warrant on Carter Page (or been told about them by others), he would have known Comey submitted the original application and the subsequent initial renewal.

That initial renewal expired in April 2017.

17/x
So we have reached the expiration of the initial FISA renewal on Carter Page, and application for renewal is made again.

On page 182 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…), the April 2017 renewal application begins and continues through page 291.

Trump is now POTUS.

18/x

On page 236 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…), you can find the "conclusion" section of the second FISA renewal application:

"The FBI believes Page has been collaborating and conspiring with the Russian Government..."

19/x

On page 269 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…), you can see this second FISA renewal application was also submitted by then FBI Director Comey, in April of 2017.

20/x

On page 271 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…), you can see Dana Boente, the then U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of VA, signed as Acting Director of the Department of Justice on the April 2017 second FISA renewal application because he was next in the hierarchy:

21/x

(At the time Dana Boente signed, Jeff Sessions had been named as Attorney General by Trump and confirmed by the U.S. Senate, but he had recused himself from Russia-related investigations. Sally Yates had been fired, and no one else had yet been appointed to be Deputy AG.)

22/x
On page 291 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…), you can see Judge Anne C. Conway approved the second renewal FISA warrant application for the FISA surveillance warrant on Carter Page:

This is the THIRD judge who has reviewed and approved these applications.

23/x

This renewed warrant is effective from a redacted date in April 2017 through a redacted date in June 2017.

But keep in mind, given the rest of the time frames, it was likely signed and submitted forward in mid to late April 2017 by Comey.

24/x
In early May 2017, what happened? Do you remember?

That's right.

TRUMP FIRED COMEY.

Unceremoniously, and with a variety of excuses put forth at different times about why he did so.

25/x
F.B.I. Director James Comey Is Fired by Trump
President Trump abruptly terminated Mr. Comey, who was leading an investigation into whether Mr. Trump’s advisers colluded with Russia to influence the election.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/09/us/politics/james-comey-fired-fbi.html
After James Comey was fired from the position of FBI director, then Deputy Director Andrew McCabe became Acting Director in May 2017.

In June 2017, the FISA warrant on Carter Page again expired and required renewal.

26/x
On page 292 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…), the June 2017 renewal application begins and continues through page 412.

This is the THIRD renewal and the FOURTH submission made to the FISA court about the warrant to surveil Carter Page.

27/x

On page 355 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…), you can find the "conclusion" section of this third renewal application:

"The FBI believes Page has been collaborating and conspiring with the Russian Government..."

28/x

On page 389 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…), you can see this third FISA renewal application was submitted in June 2017 by then Acting Director of the FBI Andrew McCabe.

The FBI Director signature line is blank because no one had yet been appointed and confirmed.

29/x

On page 391 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…), you can see the NEW, TRUMP-APPOINTED Deputy Attorney General of the Department of Justice, Rod Rosenstein, signed off on the June 2017 third FISA renewal application regarding Carter Page:

30/x

On page 412 of the PDF (int.nyt.com/data/documenth…), you can see Judge Raymond J. Dearie approved this third renewal FISA warrant application for the surveillance warrant on Page.

He is the FOURTH federal judge to have reviewed the various materials and approved the warrant.

31/x

This FOURTH submission and THIRD renewal of the FISA warrant application was signed in June 2017.

Just like Trump did with Comey, he began attacking McCabe.

Trump's first tweets about McCabe were in July 2017, and he has continued to attack him as recently as last month:

32/x

These FISA docs and related news events clearly demonstrate:

1. This ONE part of the #TrumpRussia investigation involved TWO heads of FBI, THREE leaders of the DoJ, and FOUR federal judges.
and
2. Once in office, Trump repeatedly sought REVENGE against those involved.

33/x
CONSCIOUSNESS OF GUILT.

Period.

Trump, the WH, and the leadership of the GOP can try to deny, deflect, and defame all they want, but the evidence trail is clear.

This is ONE part of Mueller's #TrumpRussia investigation.

Just one.

Imagine what we don't know.

Seth Abramson on the "leaked" Cohen tape

basically he and Maddow agree:
https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1020720722862329856.html

Yesterday I said Team Trump might have allowed this tape (or a summary of it) into the public sphere because it *knew* the tape would get out eventually and wanted to start spinning now. It appears I was right. This is a desperate gambit you only use when there's no other option.

2/ Giuliani has made clear that Trump is guided by Brett Kavanagh's theory: the only way to remove a president is by a political battle the president loses, with *no* input from any ongoing criminal investigation. Trump will selectively leak because it's all politics to him, now.

3/ The good news for America is that there *is* an ongoing investigation against Donald Trump—and one way or another the results of that investigation *will* be released to the public. And the American public *will* react to that investigation through its elected representatives.

4/ What all this means is the Russia issue and Trump's pre-election election crimes are connected—inasmuch as they're all part of a desperate political battle that Donald Trump and his legal team are now waging against Americans and their common sense about what/how criminals do.

5/ The narrative Trump is building with the Cohen tape is that he's just a normally flawed person who has been betrayed by his attorney and is being judged for things many politicians before him have done. Don't be fooled—Donald Trump is one of American history's great criminals.

BOMBSHELL - ATTN Naysayers who think elections can't be stolen via machines -

Courtesy: Threadreader https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1019221300798152704.html

In April, voting machine vendor ES&S (44% US election equipment) admitted in a letter to Sen. Wyden that it “installed REMOTE-ACCESS SOFTWARE on election-management systems it sold over a period of 6 years”! ES&S previously lied about this to the NYT!

Top Voting Machine Vendor Admits It Installed Remote-Access Software on Systems Sold to States
Remote-access software and modems on election equipment 'is the worst decision for security short of leaving ballot boxes on a Moscow street corner.'
https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/mb4ezy/top-voting-machine-vendor-admits-it-installed-remote-access-software-on-systems-sold-to-states
1/

2/ “It’s not clear why ES&S would have only installed the software on the systems of “a small number of customers” and not all customers, unless other customers objected or had state laws preventing this”

3/ Election management systems “sit in county election offices and contain software that in some counties is used to program all the voting machines used in the county; the systems also tabulate final results aggregated from voting machines.”

4/ “ES&S customers who had pcAnywhere installed also had MODEMS on their election-management systems so ES&S technicians could dial into the systems and use the software to troubleshoot, thereby creating a potential port of entry for hackers as well.”

5/ “Motherboard asked a Michigan spokesman if any officials in his state ever installed the pcAnywhere software that ES&S recommended they install, but got no response.”

6/ “If an attacker can gain remote access to an election-management system through the modem and take control of it using the pcAnywhere software installed on it, he can introduce malicious code that gets passed to voting machines to disrupt an election or alter results.”

7/ “Wyden told Motherboard that installing remote-access software and modems on election equipment “is the worst decision for security short of leaving ballot boxes on a Moscow street corner.”

8/
“In 2006, the same period when ES&S says it was still installing pcAnywhere on election systems, hackers stole the source code for the pcAnyhere software, though the public didn’t learn of this until years later in 2012 when a hacker posted some of the source code online.”

9/ ES&S defended its installation of pcAnywhere, saying that “other voting system manufacturers” did it too!!!

10/ Motherboard asked two of the other top voting machine vendors—Hart InterCivic and Dominion—if they (like ES&S) had installed remote access software onto election management systems, but “neither responded”!!!

11/ IT Professor & election equipment expert Doug Jones says that “Certainly, [Diebold Election Systems] did the same, as “many of their contracts with customers included the requirement of a remote-login port allowing [the company] to have remote access...” #gapol @markniesse

12/ “Although Wyden's office asked ES&S to identify which of its customers were sold systems with [remote access software] installed, the company did not respond”!!

13/ “All of this raises questions about how many counties across the US had remote-access software installed ... and whether intruders had ever leveraged it to subvert elections.”

14/ Thank you to @r_mccormick for bringing this jaw dropping article to my attention and to @kimzetter for writing it!

The next 24 hours are critical - what will Republicans do?

Olga Lautman @olgaNYC1211
My take on this #TreasonSummit nightmare disaster is that the direction of America will be decided in the next 24 hours. Trump a Russian Agent attacked our agencies and America while standing and defending a KGB agent. Will this be the red line for Republicans?

Republicans have the next day to decide if they stand with Trump a foreign agent or America. Their ACTIONS not words will show whether they will allow an Authoritarian regime to take full control.

For many Trumps loyalty to the Kremlin has been evident from the beginning and others are seeing it today. This includes all MSM still question Trumps reasoning w many pointing out he is insecure. This plot has been planned for a long time and Trump knows exactly what he is doing

Hope this is a wake up call for our Allies. Trump is with Russia not NATO, not Europe, not Canada, and definitely not America

At this rate Trump will end up pardoning the 26 Russians indicted because he needs to prove to Putin that he has things under control. Does Trump know they are guilty as well as all the people who will be charged? Absolutely! Trump helped orchestrate the attack
