Voted in Southern IN yesterday - 2nd day early voting - line down the block

So, yesterday I went to vote early as I usually do. In the large college town where I live there is only one place to go for early voting. I was stunned to see that the line was a block long. I've never seen that before with early voting. This was only the 2nd day too! Word was that earlier in the day the line had been longer!

It took me 40 minutes to get through the line to vote, but it was so worth it. Finally, I felt like I had the power to tell T and his whole cabal to F*ck off. I think it would take a miracle for IN to go blue, but I do pray this country overwhelming votes Democratic. I'm greedy. I don't just want T out of the Whitehouse, I want the Repubs to lose control of the Senate and more seats in the House. They put party and politics over country. They enabled the man at the helm of this disaster and they need to be held accountable by being voted out of power.

Vote everyone. Vote early if you can.

Timely Halloween Reading - The Mask of the Red Death

Seriously, if it's been a while or you haven't read this at all, make it a must for your Halloween reading. It's a short story and very relatable to the times.

Last Night I Heard My Best Friend Cry

So...my BF of almost 30 years is a hospice nurse. She's had to go into hospitals and other living facilities with patients with COVID. She's treated patients who appear to be COVID symptomatic, but since they haven't been tested shes not sure.

Now, she's been working with a patient that has tested COVID positive. They are at their private residence and given how the family is handling the situation and access to the PPE she needs, despite every precaution my friend has taken, she at the point feels it's almost impossible that she hasn't been exposed to the virus. She knows what this virus does. She knows her own health history. She scared. She does her job and she loves it. She's good at it, but she's angry she has to fight to get the protection equipment she needs.

She worries she is going to put her husband at risk. She had to call her mother who is in the early stages of dementia that she would not be able to see her until at least 3 weeks after she stops treating this patient...providing she doesn't get sick.

All I could do was listen and be there for her. I have been afraid for her since this whole thing started. She's always telling me it's not a matter of "if" she'll get the virus but "when." I'm hoping and praying she's wrong. I'm hoping that despite her fears and resources, she hasn't been exposed.

When I hear people saying this is a hoax, a conspiracy, just the same as the flu, etc...I want to scream. This is real and someone I love is putting themselves on the line to care for others at their most vulnerable. Despite her fear and the risk, she will continue to show up because this is her job. This is her calling.

All I can do is be there to listen, make her laugh if I can, remind her how special she is, and most of all pray.

While I haven't voted for a Republican candidate for anything in over twenty years, I vow I will never for any other GOP candidate for any office in my life. NEVER. Their craven lust for power put this madman in charge and he is killing people through his incompetence and indifference. They coddle and support those who demand we "reopen" for the "economy" as if dollars are more important than lives. Their hands are stained along with his. They should wear the shame around the neck for a generation if not longer.

I heard my best friend cry last night and I cried too with a mix of tears born of fear and anger.

Unity Pledge

Due to some health reasons, I've been away from all news and political sites for about 6 weeks. I am playing a little catch up trying to figure out what's going on in the world now.

One thing that I'm picking up on is it seems that once again the Democratic party seems to be ripping itself apart in the primary and it upsets me enough to want to withdraw again.

In 2016 I voted for Bernie in the primaries and voted without reservations for Hillary Clinton in the general election.

This year, I'm not 100% sure who I'll vote for in the primaries, in part because my state goes so late in the season that candidates drop out by then, currently I'm fairly certain it isn't Bernie.

However, I pledge that if he gets the nomination I will wholeheartedly support him and work toward him being elected.

I'm begging others, please, no matter how fervently you support and campaign for your candidate in the primary and no matter how much you love them, if they do not get the nomination, please vote for the nominee in the general election. Be angry. Be upset. Hate the candidate if you want, but vote for them. We already know what the alternative will be.

Please, we cannot afford another 2016. We just can't.

I'm still voting for her-- but don't expect me to be enthused with this VP pick

Sorry...I think once again this is a play it safe move and snubbing the liberal base. She had options. Again, don't get me wrong, I'm still voting for her, but I'm not going to be posting happy flappy posts about how excited I am about this ticket.

Hillary made her pick. She wants me to get excited about it...her campaign's got a lot of work to do.
