About Me

Long time reader, but I normally don't join the discussion. I've been on the site since 2001, but didn't post until 2014. I worked in banking for 20 years, and retired at 40. Since then, I travel, work on photography, and enjoy a slower life.

A friend has now caught COVID for the third time

Late night rant, but I just finished talking with a Trumper friend. It's been a running conversation for the past 36 hours.

She caught COVID for the THIRD time. She thought it was a hoax until she caught it the first time. She had a mild case, so of course it was being over-hyped to hurt the former president. On the premise of "It wasn't so bad, and I've already caught it" she refused to wear a mask, and got it a second time in December. As soon as things opened, she was back on her barstool in her favorite watering hole, sure she was immune since she had it twice.

The problem is this time, she's caring for her grandparents. They're both 80+. He's got Alzheimer's, and they're both homebound. He was diagnosed diabetic last week and had his first insulin shot yesterday. I talked her through six infuriating hours last night and this morning of how the test kit worked, how to do injections, and why in Gods' name did she let him have a Twix bar with breakfast? (His first BGL read was 394). Despite the conversation on meal planning, she gave him a giant glass of orange juice to help keep his immune system up.

Well, she lost her sense of smell last week and didn't mention it. She thought it was just an after effect of having COVID twice. All three of them tested positive today. She can't imagine where they caught it since they don't go anywhere. I can't help to think she's going to kill her grandparents because of her reckless behavior. I don't know that she'll ever understand that her behavior is what led to them catching it, and she's responsible for whatever the outcome is.

I want to help their family, but you can't stop a leak in the dam when the person asking for help is still digging holes.

Update: Gma was admitted to the hospital by ambulance this morning (5/4), her breathing was so shallow she was basically panting. She's got pneumonia, and corresponding low O2 levels. The hospital made a referral for someone to "check" on Gpa, but it sounds like it was Elderly Care Services, not a nurse.

Has anyone else notice the stage at CPAC?

It's in the shape of the Odal Rune. The rune was worn on the collar of the 7th SS Volunteer Mountain Division Prinz Eugen and the 23rd SS Volunteer Panzer Grenadier Division Nederland, as well as the SS-Rasse- und Siedlungshauptamt, which was responsible for maintaining the racial purity of the SS.

More Nazi symbolism, right there in the open if you know what you're looking at. Disgusting.

I'm flabbergasted.

Graham, Cruz et al. asked Trump's counsel: "Does a politician raising bail for rioters cause more riots?"
Counsel: "Yes".

That's the entirety of the response.

I'm bewildered because it's the Republicans that keep paying bail for the violent rioters *cough* rittenhouse *cough*. That one word answer says that "Yes, we know our actions promote further violence."

As a taxpayer, here's a question...

How much government supplied healthcare does $750 buy?

Trump sent me a letter today.

I live in Texas, in a Republican district. Today, I received an application for a mail-in ballot, unsolicited. I can't believe it's legal to send a ballot application with his face and name all over it. (especially since IMPOTUS claims that sending an application to everyone on a party neutral form is illegal, and is filing lawsuits to block it in several states).

Good ol' Texas though.

My own theory on Trump vs. Native American peoples

Trump has refused to release funds to Native American tribes to fight COVID. First Nation tribal lands are some of the worst hit areas of the country.

It finally hit me. All the blowing up on heritage sites, the selling off national parks for mining (destroying burial sites in the process), the seizing of tribal lands, cancelling tribal charters. It's revenge.

Back in the 80's and early 90's, Trump wanted to open casinos, but had to partner with a Native America tribe to do so. Every single tribe refused to partner with him. After this, he sued the Bureau of Indian Affairs in an attempt to seeking to overturn the federal law allowing "Indian gaming". Trump said that he himself “might have more Indian blood than a lot of the so-called Indians that are trying to open up reservations" (Don Imus Show). His comments were so bad John McCain ordered Trump's comments be added to the Congressional record as an example of “the kind of misinformation and misunderstanding…which have characterized discussions about Indian gaming”.

This is all revenge for them not helping him make and / or launder money back then.

Man Found Hanging From A Tree In Houston Days After Similar Instances In L.A.

Source: BET.com

A man has reportedly been found dead and hanging from a tree Monday morning (June 15) in a vacant lot in Houston’s Shady Acres neighborhood.

According to Houston Police Spokesperson Jodi Silva, the death is “believed to be a suicide,” however the official cause of death is pending until an autopsy is performed.

Silva also says the HPD could not immediately provide more information about the unidentified man because his body was found “in an advanced stage of decomposition.”

From what I've read, this is the fifth, not the third, since May 31st. New York, 2 in California (which the story mentions), Virginia, and now Houston, Texas. The story mentions that the body is in an "advanced state of decomposition". Do you honestly expect us to believe that the victim has been hanging there long enough to reach that state and no one noticed him until now?

Does anyone else think it's odd that Jo Jorgensen is popping up all of a sudden?

She's raised a grand total of $31,648 for the Presidential race per OpenSecrets.org. All of a sudden, after polls start showing Biden up by a double digit lead, I'm seeing memes spring up touting her as the perfect candidate (with disparaging and debunked claims against Biden for comparison). It may just be me, but I'm paranoid enough to remember the alternate party candidates that were discovered to be funded by the GOP in prior races.
