Broad City: When Ordinary Citizens Run Against Powerful Incumbants

A month ago, when Congressman Steve King tweeted that “We can’t restore our civilization with somebody else’s babies,” it helped to pinpoint exactly where conservative politics are in 2017. The high-profile Iowa lawmaker showed that his xenophobic ideas no longer needed to be hidden, and he was actively trying to make immigrants and refugees feel unwelcome in the United States. In many ways, King and his ilk have been emboldened by the election of Donald J. Trump, and King, in fact, doubled down on his rhetoric in the days that followed. When offered an opportunity to back off his stance, King said no, there was no misunderstanding: he meant exactly what he said.

This year has been defined by powerful white men and their lies. Parsing out fact from fiction has become a daily chore for ordinary Americans, making it difficult to even know where to begin with combatting the agenda of the new administration. It’s not an easy job, holding elected officials’ feet to the fire and reminding them of their own vulnerability, but two women in two of the reddest parts of conservative America are hoping to go where no other woman from their district has gone before: the U.S. House of Representatives. And for the first time, well, maybe ever, they just might have a shot.

Not helpful, and complete bullshit.

Enough already.

There's an asshole in the White House that needs to be dealt with.

Is Bernie Sanders fighting for the Democratic Party?

I have to ask, because there are a lot of off shoot groups out there, i.e. Justice Democrats, Draft Bernie, Our Revolution, etc., who seem to be asking Bernie Sanders to run as a separate, third party in 2020.

These groups also seem to be attempting to primary Democrats in 2018.

These groups refer to themselves as "The People's Party" or "Berniecrats".

I would sincerely hope that he would denounce such groups.

They are of course, welcome to start their own party, but it's asinine and destructive to believe they should do it on the backs of the Democratic Party.

I think New York State Governor Cuomo will run in 2020

He's the perfect anecdote to Donald Trump.
