Great tweet on tax bill

“This tax bill is like a retreating, defeated army looting and burning a briefly-held city.”

It is nice to hear that there are so many of us in the same boat

Or in some form of existential hell! Every morning I awake positive and then the news informs me of the darkness of the present political situation. My mood deteriorates and sadly with good reason.

I can’t stand Trump and his minions. He is a dark ignorant mutation of the country hatched in the toxic slime of racism and greed. He and his beliefs are soul destroying.

The balance I strive to find is fighting against him with positivity and compassion. The better half and I took a trip to the FDR Presidential library in Hyde Park to serve as a balm for our souls. It is important to me to recharge and return with a promise that even in the darkest time, we can fight back as humans and as proud Democrats!

James Connolly, Irish revolutionary with words for Americans

Ireland, as distinct from her people, is nothing to me; and the man who is bubbling over with love and enthusiasm for "Ireland," and can yet pass unmoved through our streets and witness all the wrong and the suffering, shame and degradation wrought upon the people of Ireland-yea, wrought by Irishmen upon Irish men and women, without burning to end it, is, in my opinion, a fraud and a liar in his heart, no matter how he loves that combination of chemical elements he is pleased to call Ireland.

Replace Ireland with America and it rings true on this Mach 17th.

Apologies, I took for granted my country

In the W years, I turned to DU in what I thought (foolishly) were the last dark days for awhile in the USA. I remember W and all that went with that regime ( duct tape, dark lord Cheney, Iraq). I suffered through John Kerrys loss.

In 2008, I supported and my family worked for President Obama. There was excitement and positive feelings about my country again. I thought he was wrong to compromise with the gopers because they hated him. But he understood the fabric of our country and knew that civility and discussion were essential to being an American President. He made me proud of this country and he took so much abuse but handled it with grace and dignity. I was mad at him for one thing- I could see our party losing election after election. Yet I merely complained and voted but didn't work for the party. I was asleep as to how much hate rested in the bosom of our land.

I am still in a state of shock about the election. Not the liberal tears type mocked by the rightist and fascist regime that now rules the land- but anger.
Anger at seeing frightened refugee children running from the US border patrol in a way all to reminiscent of the dark gestapo stories I read but thought would never happen here.
Anger at an inquisition against science even while the funereal drumbeats of man made climate change remind us that we are destroying this pale blue dot , our only home.
Anger that the supposed party of the free market principles embraces state sanctioned gerrymandering to destroy competition in the political marketplace.
Anger that the same party officials who openly mock the role of government feed at the elected political trough for decades and lord don't they need their taxpayer funded checks and healthcare while literally planning to take it from everyone else they can.
Anger at the dark money dealers who hide in the shadow with Orwellian names for their PACs because they are in the final analysis, cowards.
Anger that we are actually taking possessions from the Native Americans again because we can.
And last anger that this raging egomaniac, orange greasepainted Nero is 45.
I am responsible for not working.

So again DU will be therapy for me and I will work against this regime as Doctor King demanded we should do when we see injustice. So to nonviolent witnessing of atrocities as well as working for my Democratic Party I go. In my faith the prayer for confession asks forgiveness for things not done as well as things done. I will lean on that prayer everyday while I wince at the pain caused by this regime because I couldn't be bothered to work for my liberty and the liberty of others so oppressed now. Peace.
