There goes the narrative. Latinos support midterm Democrats by more than 2:1

Pundits find nothing more fun than to pretend that Latinos are slowly drifting towards Republicans.
proof? Who needs proof?

Latino voters break 52% for the Democrats, 23% for the Republican and 21% say they support neither candidate.

Biden confirming judges at the same pace as Trump

Judge confirmation was an excuse for pundits to kiss Trump’s ass.
All of a sudden, Judge confirmation is not praise worthy.

CNN not happy with its own pollster's results

Democrats are ahead by 3% in the generic ballot, up from a tie in June.
But in their quest to attracting right wing nuts by becoming more like Fox, CNN says that in “competitive districts” Republicans are here by 5%.

Several questions go unanswered.
What was the margin in “competitive districts” in June? What qualifies as a competitive district?

Read and throw up.

Michigan county hires 'Stop the Steal' ringleader to recruit poll workers

Source: Politico

A social media influencer who implored a crowd to “storm the gates” of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, has been hired by a Michigan county clerk as the “talent development specialist” working with poll workers in one of the battleground state’s biggest swing regions, according to an email obtained by POLITICO.

The talent-development official, Genevieve Peters, also joined armed members of the Proud Boys for a 2020 rally at the Michigan Capitol and live-streamed a “Stop the Steal” protest outside the home of Michigan’s secretary of state. She has made numerous social media posts of herself mingling with Proud Boys including marching alongside its leader, Joe Biggs, according to social media postings by citizen journalists tracking extremists including Chad Loder, whose work to identify Jan. 6 participants has been cited in at least one Department of Justice charging document.

Ukraine Appeals for More Support From West as Russia Resumes Strikes

Source: Wall Street Journal

Ukraine said it shot down nine drones over the south of the country on Wednesday as the West moved to shore up the country’s air defenses in the wake of a barrage of Russian missiles and drones that knocked out energy infrastructure earlier this week.

The barrage heightened concerns as Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov met with U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Wednesday ahead of the latest meeting of more than 50 Western countries under the U.S.-led Ukraine Defense Contact Group in Brussels.

In opening remarks, Mr. Austin said Russia’s recent attacks had strengthened the resolve of Kyiv and its partners. “We will continue to boost Ukraine’s defensive capabilities—for today’s urgent needs and for the long haul,” he said.

Mr. Reznikov wrote on Twitter that strengthening Ukraine’s air defense was at the top of the agenda.

Saudi Arabia Defied U.S. Warnings Ahead of OPEC+ Production Cut

Source: Wall Street Journal

Days before a major oil-production cut by OPEC and its Russia-led allies, U.S. officials called their counterparts in Saudi Arabia and other big Gulf producers with an urgent appeal—delay the decision for another month, according to people familiar with the talks. The answer: a resounding no.

U.S. officials warned Saudi leaders that a cut would be viewed as a clear choice by Riyadh to side with Russia in the Ukraine war and that the move would weaken already-waning support in Washington for the kingdom, the people said.

Saudi officials dismissed the requests, which they viewed as a political gambit by the Biden administration to avoid bad news ahead of the U.S. midterm elections, on which control of Congress hangs. High gas prices and inflation have been central issues in the campaign.

Instead, the people said, the kingdom leaned on its OPEC allies to approve the cut, which is aimed at reducing production by 2 million barrels a day.

Federal Officials Trade Stock in Companies Their Agencies Oversee

Source: Wall Street Journal

Thousands of officials across the government’s executive branch reported owning or trading stocks that stood to rise or fall with decisions their agencies made, a Wall Street Journal investigation has found.

More than 2,600 officials at agencies from the Commerce Department to the Treasury Department, during both Republican and Democratic administrations, disclosed stock investments in companies while those same companies were lobbying their agencies for favorable policies. That amounts to more than one in five senior federal employees across 50 federal agencies reviewed by the Journal.

A top official at the Environmental Protection Agency reported purchases of oil and gas stocks. The Food and Drug Administration improperly let an official own dozens of food and drug stocks on its no-buy list. A Defense Department official bought stock in a defense company five times before it won new business from the Pentagon.

The Journal obtained and analyzed more than 31,000 financial-disclosure forms for about 12,000 senior career employees, political staff and presidential appointees. The review spans 2016 through 2021 and includes data on about 850,000 financial assets and more than 315,000 trades reported in stocks, bonds and funds by the officials, their spouses or dependent children.

Russian economy activity slowed significantly at end-Sept, says c.bank

Source: Reuters

MOSCOW, Oct 11 (Reuters) - Economic activity in Russia slowed significantly at the end of September, Bank of Russia Deputy Governor Alexei Zabotkin told lawmakers on Tuesday, but payments to mobilised troops should cushion the negative effect on consumer demand.

President Vladimir Putin announced on Sept. 21 that 300,000 people would be mobilised to boost Russia's efforts in what it calls a "special military operation" in Ukraine, but details of the economic impact have so far been thin on the ground.

The central bank has been instrumental in limiting the economic fallout from the conflict in Ukraine and subsequent sanctions targeting Russia, introducing capital controls to steady the rouble, which had plunged to a record low against the dollar in early March.

An emergency rate hike to 20% in late February was followed by six cuts back to pre-crisis levels, but the bank suggested its rate-cutting cycle may have come to an end last month when trimming to 7.5%. The market is eagerly awaiting the next meeting on rates on Oct. 28.
