Lancaster County, PA primary: 1/2 of mail-in ballots now need hand counting due to vendor error

Today is PA's primary for judges, local officials, school boards etc. New vendor for ballots has screwed up 3 times this primary season. I can just hear the GOP ready to crow about mail-in ballots being the devil...

"An error by the (Lancaster) county's mail-in ballot vendor now means more than half of all mail-in ballots will have to be hand-counted, causing significant delay in final results.
"Michigan Elections Resources printed multi-sheet ballots in the wrong order, affecting approximately 14,000 ballots, a press release from the Lancaster County Board of Elections said. Those ballots are now unable to be scanned by the county's ballot scanners and will have to be hand counted....
"This is now the third error from Michigan Election Resources in the municipal primary election, impacting more than 14,000 ballots. Earlier this month, approximately 2,700 voters were alerted that some received incorrect voting instructions that prompted them that they did not need to pay postage. Additionally, approximately 100 voters in (2 boroughs) received incorrect return envelopes intended for another voter, leading voters to need to cancel their ballots and receive new ones...."
Official says "the county will be seeking a new vendor for the November General Election, and to hold Michigan Elections Resources accountable for the errors...."

It's not too late to invoke the 25th Amendment and make Pence president.

Pence showed he's willing to stand up for the rule of law by doing his duty and shutting down debate today.
He may be reprehensible in many ways, but he wouldn't incite violence.

So it's time for the 25th Amendment ... remove Donald Trump for trying to bring down the U.S. Govt ... call it whatever. Just get him out of the way till Joe Biden is sworn in. Pence can be #46 and Biden #47. I don't care. We need to take Trump's toys away before he sells our country to Vladimir Putin.
Putin is LOVING what he is seeing on TV, and the rest of the world is appalled.

Is anyone else hearing that there are 17,000 military ballots yet to come in on Friday?

I’m seeing this all over Twitter, but I can’t find a source. They are saying that 17,000 military ballots are expected to come in on Friday. I mean, those have to be Republican votes, right? Talk me down, people!

Thank you, my DU friends, for keeping me sane through these dark days

Before Trump announced his candidacy what seems like a lifetime ago, I had strayed from this board for quite a while -- so long that I had to start a new account because I no longer had my old email address to change my forgotten password. (I used to be gauguin57 during the Bush years).
I just wanted to say thank you to you all for giving me a place I could come to read stories, editorials, opinions, predictions, frustrations, triumphs -- a lot of content that assured me I wasn't crazy and that everything would be all right someday.
I don't know what tomorrow will bring -- and, being a Pennsylvanian, I'm not sure tomorrow will give us a definitive answer -- all I know is that you guys have helped keep me sane when I thought I was truly going to lose it over the invasion of Donald J. Trump and his traveling circus.
Thank you, and happy and safe voting to those who, like me, will venture out to the polling place Tuesday!
May whatever higher power you may or may not embrace have mercy on all our souls!!
Courage.

In days after Nov. 3, we must be ready for psychological warfare

In the days after November 3, 2020, we must be ready for psychological warfare with the Trump camp. Remember that in 2000, George W. Bush‘s cousin, John Ellis, called the state of Florida, and by extension the presidential election, for Bush, while working at Fox News (see link below). Though Florida was NOT clearly Bush’s that night, once that network call has been made, by a Bush cousin!, it was harder for Al Gore to challenge. Bush had the psychological edge with the country. If this election is close, the Trump camp will be all psychological warfare, all the time. We must be ready this time. From WaPo in 2000:

Ellis's projection was crucial because Fox News Channel put Florida in the W. column at 2:16 a.m.--followed by NBC, CBS, CNN and ABC within four minutes. That decision, which turned out to be wrong and was retracted by the embarrassed networks less than two hours later, created the impression that Bush had "won" the White House.

Rachel, Joy and Nicole are having way too much fun

The three women covering the Democratic national convention for MSNBC, seem to be out of the house for the first time in a long time. They are all at the same desk, several feet apart, and getting their sea legs back as far as being with colleagues. And laughing a lot before digging into the serious business of the post office scandal.

St. Paul mayor could be a future Dem. rock star

Saw Melvin Carter III, mayor of St. Paul, Minn. on Lawrence’s show He gave me that gut feeling I’ve gotten with some who eventually became significant players in the Democratic party. He told such a great story about his father, who was an African-American community police officer, walking the beat in the neighborhood where he grew up in St. Paul. Carter made the point about how police understanding the community they are working in makes all the difference in community policing. He talked about how people would call the house when he was growing up, saying they would only surrender to be arrested by his father, who would get out of bed at midnight and go make sure the arrest was done properly. Carter’s mother was a county commissioner, so he already had politics in his blood. I just found this young man to be a very impressive person in the few minutes he spoke with Lawrence on MSNBC. He has had a few missteps as mayor, but I just got this feeling he could really be something special in our party in the future. Here’s today’s Q&A with the New Yorker. Lancaster (PA) officials say group of armed, white men infiltrated protests, instigated violence Sunday

This is in the city of Lancaster, PA, where protests were peaceful Saturday, and wound up with police pepper-spraying people on Sunday (with pix of police wrestling young, white men to the ground). More investigation is needed to determine what group these outside agitators were with.

"A small group of armed men, possibly white nationalists, infiltrated Sunday’s protests in downtown Lancaster to instigate violence during a largely peaceful demonstration, city officials said Monday. ...
"Any time officers were pelted with rocks or bottles Sunday, it came from Caucasian men in the crowd, police Chief Jarrad Berkihiser said at the news conference. ...
There were between five and 15 agitators, all white men in their late 20s and early 30s, according to Mayor Danene Sorace, who said video footage is being put into a state police system to identify the agitators...."
