Senate Probe Zeroes In on Pennsylvania Republican
October 7, 2021 at 9:47 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 27 Comments
A Senate Democratic report released Thursday places Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) at the center of efforts to help former President Donald Trump overturn the 2020 election results, Politico reports.
The report indicates that the House Freedom Caucus, a group of hardline conservatives with close ties to Trump, took an active role in helping the president strategize about ways to undercut Joe Bidens victory. But the report indicates that Perry, more than other House Republicans, took a direct role in attempting to help Trump install loyalists in the Justice Department who would assist in undermining the legitimacy of Joe Bidens victory.

Donald Trump Knows Full Well That He Was "Formenting Violence"
"He Was Fomenting Violence." Grisham On Trump
He was listening to people, conspiracy theorists, and he was putting statements and tweets out there, and Donald Trump knows full well that he has a base of people out there who are willing to do whatever is needed or whatever he suggests to them. He knows he can suggest things and also not have consequences. And I believe this is why leadership in the Republican Party and a lot of Republicans wont speak up. I have to believe that people feel the same way I do but theyre afraid. Theyre afraid to speak up because of the people, you know, like the people that were at the insurrection on January 6th. There is a violent, violent mob out there and watching him push that, you know, through November December was difficult.

"Ms. Bissey came to Washington DC upon the urging of the President, eager to support him and be with like-minded individuals..."
"It was not until President Trump's son raised the idea of marching to the US Capital that Ms. Bissey even considered going to the seat of Congress."

Biden Says Democrats Could Change Filibuster RulesPresident Biden said it is a real possibility that Senate Democrats could seek to revise the chambers filibuster rules to overcome a Republican blockade on raising the debt ceiling, the Washington Post reports.
Such a major change could give Democrats the ability to stave off a potential, calamitous default roughly two weeks before a critical fiscal deadline but only if all party lawmakers agree to loosen the Senates typical 60-vote threshold in a way some, including Biden, have been disinclined to do for months.

Rating Agency Says U.S. Will Avoid Default
Moodys Investors Service said on Tuesday the stable outlook on the United States Aaa rating reflects its view that the country would raise its debt limit and continue to meet its debt service obligations in full and on time, Reuters reports.
Punchbowl News: There seems to be some theory floating around the Capitol that tomorrows procedural vote will help clarify this process, a bit. The cloture vote will fail no surprises here. But Republicans seem convinced that it will help Schumer and the Democratic leadership push their rank-and-file senators toward reconciliation afterward. We will see in the coming days whether thats the case.
