The worst Democrat is better than the best Republican.

Any infighting aside, I just want to throw that out there as a reminder. Reach out to those who don't often vote or don't ever vote. We have to outnumber the opposition at the polls, plain and simple. We have to win elections. Our lives are at stake.

I'd take a Lowell Weicker type liberal Republican over a Joe Lieberman/Zell Miller style right winger-in-drag any day.

That being said, since all the Weicker types have long been bounced from the GOP, I'd go along with your assessment

If you look at voting records, even the likes of Joe Manchin are far superior to the least bad Republicans.

are now Democrats. Theodore Roosevelt is from that school of Republicanism that essentially died with Dwight_D._Eisenhower. I remember distinctly when Susan Eisenhower endorsed Barack Obama during the convention.

Since this is not an academic exercise, I can and do link to Wikipedia.

Can you imagine any one of today's prominent Republicans so morally committed to "liberty and justice for all" as to enter a war to end the slave trade practiced by their wealthy donors?

That is why most "sane" Republicans are at minimum Independent, and have crossed over to our side. Hard to believe that ideals that most of us consider basic and human decent actions are framed as "the left".

I have voted for Presidents in both major parties, (the last one was 2000 Bush41). The last Republican politician I voted for was Pat McCrory when he was mayor here and his 1st run for Governor; was not a fan of Beverly Perdue at the time. Sometimes you do things that are regretted later, despite him being a good mayor here, and I have actually met and talked to him at that time.

There are no more moderates left in the GOP. If there were, Trump would have been thrown out on his orange ass by now.

Democrats need to raise holy hell about (largely race-based) voter suppression and gerrymandering.

It reminds me of the Bush administration saying our torture wasn't so bad because Saddam did worse.
