America is slipping into extremism...
That’’s not news to most of us here I know. But. I wonder just how fully it’’s front and centre within the consciousness of the people? I bet it’’s not nearly as much as it should be. Trump is to the presidency what the Kardashian’s are to Hollywood. Shiny, embarrassing, distracting baubles we all like to talk about around the water cooler. “Can you believe he said that! The man’’s a fucking loony toon!” Yes the man is indeed mad. But there’s nothing funny about cementing in stone the top 1/2 of 1%’s control over the country. Nothing funny about mortgaging away what's left of the future of the average citizen.
There’s nothing at all fucking funny about sending the CDC lists of “banned words”. Nothing funny about the government publicly supporting the rights of Neo Nazis while questioning the rights of their most loyal citizens. None of that should be 2017, because it could all be from 1984, the book not the year!
Don’’t let the lack of concentration camps fool you into thinking this is not fascism. This IS populist fascism ! This is extremism. And I fear the deeper the country goes down that rabbit whole the harder it will be to come back. I also fear what the back lash will look like. People will only put up with so much before breaking. The GOP is creating a HUGE amount of dry tinder and has been pouring gasoline over it now. We aren't’ there yet, but one wonders what could cause the spark, and what the fire could look like.
Maybe it could be a small conflagration, just a wake up call. Or. Maybe we could see the rise of a counter Trump. I’m NOT saying I see ANYONE like that yet. I'm not pointing any fingers. It’s just that when you build up enough anger in the people, when you make them feel like cornered animals for long enough, they have the bad habit of throwing their support behind whoever promises to make their voices heard.
Trump himself played this card when he played to the disaffected bigoted, red neck, White middle America vote. I’m NOT saying all of middle America is that!
But I do fear something similar could one day happen on the left if the sickness and cancer of this oligarchy isn't’ stopped. The amount of anger and rage seething under the surface on the left should not be underestimated. You may think I’’m nuts to say this as we are deeper into fascism than something like communism. But the two ends meet.
What America needs is democratic socialism which is nothing like communism of course.
What America has is extremism, fascism.
