Shooting suspect's gun range membership rejected

AURORA, Colo. -- Shooting suspect James Holmes applied to join a Colorado gun range last month but never became a member because of his behavior and a "bizarre" message on his voice mail greeting, the range's owner said Sunday.

Holmes, 24, emailed an application to join the Lead Valley Range in Byers on June 25 in which he said he was not a user of illegal drugs or a convicted felon, said owner Glenn Rotkovich.

But when Rotkovich called to invite him to a mandatory orientation the following week, he said he heard Holmes' voice mail greeting that was "bizarre - guttural, freakish at best."

It identified the number as belonging to "James," so Rotkovich said he left a message.

That jumped out as odd to me, why would they measure a poster?

It's a good policy if the police are searching someone's residence anyway, plus it protects them legally in cases where the property owner turns out not to be guilty of something.

(In this case, something like "how dare you damage my one-of-a-kind Soldiers of Misfortune poster! Look at the edges!&quot

I worked in residential restoration for a couple of years and we went into at least that much detail as a matter of routine. I can only assume there'd be rather more detail investigating something like this.

If he is an NRA member, shouldn't some start demonizing him? Aren't all NRA members right-wing "gun nuts" in favor of automatic weapons with 2,000 round "clips" that can be purchased without any background checks? Aren't they all right-wing gun owners who wear horns?
