Would they do anything at all?
It is doubtful.
They are incompetent.
They are dangerous.

I would not put anything past all of them. Republicans are committing treason on American citizens & the constitution.
Right now.
What is to stop him??

(58,785 posts)The Constitution. The states. We have a system of checks and balances for just this reason among others. Plus, power is not centralized. The states hold considerable power.
This does raise an interesting question about what Republican governments in the various red states would do however. They've historically resisted orders from Washington and, in fact, love to deny their legality.

(4,611 posts)with cancelling elections or suspending the Constitution. All it will take is War (nuclear or otherwise) with N. Korea, Iran or fill-in-the blank. It will be billed and sold as a "rally around the flag", patriotic, wartime necessity capitalizing on the same primal fears after 9/11. I would put nothing past Trump and this Republican Congress. EVERYTHING about this regime and Congress is unprecedented and abnormal. We keep clinging to our old ideas of what is "normal" in Washington, D.C. despite much daily evidence that the old rules, protocols and procedures are being undermined before our eyes.

(10,178 posts)I've never seen anything about the possibilities of martial law?
I always thought that hardcore conservatives detested all government interference and would object to martial law just on general principle.
