Over a year ago this SNL skit was done. It’s funny but keen. I’d like to find some humor now but it escapes me. Joy Reid said this week that Republicans are protecting tRump from the Rule of Law. I agree. Well, with the added thought that they are protecting themselves from it also. In any case, Republicans ought to have cleaned house decades ago when their Party was first hijacked by extremists and fundamentalists. If they had, America would not be in this mess.

1. Their party wasn't hijacked. They went out of their way to court those voters.

The GOP has been in bed with the religious wackos for decades, & even though they didn't outright court racists, when Palin started her racist taunts in the 2008 campaign, they didn't shut that down. Fuck them, every one. They courted these assholes and have now lost control of their party to the point that moderates can't speak out or the base will desert them & they can't win without Trump's base.

It was part and parcel of the "Southern Strategy" when LBJ promoted the Civil Rights Act.

edit: It was the beginning of the bifurcations of the Republican Party, the fruits of which we can see so clearly today. The old-line monied Repubs in New England and New York were sure they could use the unwashed to keep their electoral numbers up. And they never ever ever considered the possibility that they might not be able to control the results of stoking the fires of resentment.
