How Did Bob Corker Go from Dead Broke to $69M Net Worth During 11 Years in U.S. Senate?

“How do you increase your net worth by 69 million dollars while you’re working full-time as a Senator?” That’s the question Rolling Stone reporter Matt Taibbi asked about Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) on Friday.

Neither Taibbi nor Rolling Stone are fans of Corker (or of President Trump, Republicans, or conservatism in general). And Rolling Stone has had problems of its own, recently, as has Taibbi.

Nonetheless, Taibbi puts a fine point on what many political watchers across the Volunteer State have been asking for years.

Federal campaign contributions and lobbying data tracker Open Secrets has perhaps the most jaw-dropping illustration of Corker’s rise to wealth.

"Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) recently filed amendments to his personal financial disclosure reports that added millions of dollars to his net worth.

The senator on Friday amended forms dating back to his arrival to the Senate in 2007, identifying 83 individual changes.

In a statement, Corker said the “filing errors” were an “oversight” that has now been corrected.

Corker ranks as the twenty-third richest member of Congress, per a tally by CQ Roll Call, with a minimum net worth of nearly $18 million."

Why anyone would believe a single word uttered by a republican is beyond me.

I wonder the same about a lot of congresscritters. I think their financial status should be investigated. I still don't think their donations all make it to the campaign bucket. Probably don't make it to the IRS, either.
