Think 2016 was bad? With the Electoral College, Hillary could have LOST with 77% of the popular vote

And the votes of white people count for more than the votes of people of color.

At the link you can find a map showing which states would need to be carried in order for someone to win with only 23%.

By comparison, Trump won with only 46.4 compared to Hillary's 48.5.

So under our system, Hillary could have won three-fourths of the popular vote and still lost.

AT WHAT POINT DO WE STOP BLAMING HER FOR RUNNING A "BAD CAMPAIGN" AND START BLAMING THE RACIST SYSTEM?

In fact, by avoiding big diverse states, a candidate could win the US presidency with just 23 percent of the popular vote. All that candidate would have to do is appeal to the concerns of those who feel they have the least to gain from a diverse America.

Enter Donald Trump. His campaign sang the praises of an America of (whiter) years gone by. Voters who scored high on a survey for racial resentment heavily favored him.

2016 results:

trump 46.4% votes 62,984,825

clinton 48.5% votes 65,853,516

The kind of thing Pootie has the kind of dreams where he whimpers happily in his sleep while his legs twitch as he busily catches and kills slow fuzzy voting machines that taste just like the pelmeni they served in the KGB cafeteria that he remembers with painful, almost erotic, nostalgia.

The scenario itself sounds like the stuff of basic HS Civics. Win by one vote in 39 states and DC, lose 11 states unanimously, and eke out an Electoral College victory.

It can get worse. Imaging you can suppress the vote of all but one voter in those 39 states and DC. Statistically that's like winning with zero percent of the popular vote.

And thanks to the Electoral College, winning with absolutely zero popular votes is another possibility. Again, if it ever happens, we're talking compromat on a simple majority of Electors.

Only in Pootie's dreams. Right?

to win the presidency with only 12 votes if you won the 12 states with the most electoral votes 1-0.

even if your opponent won the other 38 states +DC with EVERY eligible voter in those places voting only for your opponent.

obviously that is an absurd extreme example, but the fact it is even mathematically possible to happen in this day and age is ridiculous.
