Trump succeeded by providing a categorical grida clear definition of groups and intergroup relationsthat allowed many Americans to make sense of their lived experiences.
Within this framework, he established himself as a prototypical American and a voice for people who otherwise felt voiceless.
NOTE: His rivals did not deploy the skills of identity leadership to present an inclusive narrative of us. In that context, Trump had a relatively free run.

(7,660 posts)participation in anything mentioned. I think he is simply appealing to the many WHITE Americans that identify with his hateful, racist, misogynistic, homophobic rhetoric. At least in Texas, they make a large percentage of the voting population. We get the government we deserve.
