All of a sudden the accusations against powerful men sexually abusing

women has stopped. At least in the M$M. Wonder what has caused this period of inactivity? I know sexual harassment and abuse has not ended. Trump the pussy grabber is still President. Did the reporting end with the election of Doug Jones? Is the media moving on now?

No politician has really had their feet held the fire by reporters. I guess reporters rarely do that anyhow. Though some are outstanding, I think reporters are basically cowards who are afraid they will lose access to a politician if they nail them on something.

Politicians need the media. I don't think they would really want to totally destroy their avenue to communicate. Though, like Trump, I'm sure "some" would love to control the media.

The news is how the people stay informed about the government that lords over them. That is the whole reason we have freedom of the press in our Constitution. I think maybe the people should be able to to fire a few reporters who don't have the guts to ask the right questions and keep asking and asking until the right question is answered. I prefer that over a reporter or news reader who lets a politician demigog.

Now that the holidays are over, I assume the harassers will be up to their old tricks and the press will hopefully nail them in 2018 too.

The 2nd Women's March is set for Jan 20 and 21, 2018 and I am sure that will keep the subject on the front page where it belongs. The themes are "Hear Our Votes" and " Power To The Polls".

Perhaps it's no longer sensationalist enough.

Or perhaps the accusations, which started against people nobody much liked, got a bit too close to home with Franken and Conyers?

Or maybe they realized that many people were being forced from office based on charges unsubstantiated except to reporters in closed session and that the accused had no rights in this--we must believe the anonymous sources or else?

Or maybe you missed the reporting on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Kozinski . Of course, that means Trump will get to appoint another judge to the 9th circuit CoA; Kozinski was appointed by Reagan. It also meant that Judge Roberts got to play the role of "defender of women" in talking about toughening up judicial codes of conduct and punishments for sitting judges, which I don't think anybody liked.

Freedom of the press wasn't primarily directed at the 4th estate. That came later. The whole reason for freedom of the press in the Constitution is freedom of expressing thought, opinions, information. That certainly includes the formal newspaper-type press. But just as freedom of speech is not relegated to just political speech, so freedom of the press is not relegated to just political speech (unless you're of the opinion that everything, including the way I cut the onion I chopped as part of dinner or the mashed potato pancakes I fried up for lunch, is political). Narrowing the construction of the original amendment is a nice way of reducing the potential defenses we allow an opponent to make for other types of speech we'd like to see banned. "No, that speech isn't covered by the 1st amendment because it's not sufficiently political" is a canard best not pursued.
