Nor'easter set to explode

Nor’easter set to ‘explode’

The powerful nor’easter barreling up the coast will “explode” tomorrow into bombogenesis — a cyclone of snow that could dump a foot on Greater Boston, meteorologists warn.

Channel 7 meteorologist Jeremy Reiner said ... “This is a three-headed monster with the snow, the wind and coastal flooding,” “
The concern with this storm is the incredible winds and bitter cold.”
He warned that if homeowners lose power tomorrow, they’ll face deadly bitter cold in the hours to follow. Temperatures could dip to 20 to 25 degrees below zero with the wind chill, he added.

“It will be a Goliath,” Weather Channel storm chaser Jim Cantore agreed.
The storm could pack gusts of up to 60 mph on the Cape, knock out power along the coast and leave “biting Arctic cold” in its wake, he added.

... it could bring tomorrow’s evening commute to a halt when the snowfall is expected to peak.

“This is a winter hurricane. It’s a very dynamic storm packing high winds and below-zero wind chills. It’s insane,” Cantore said. “This has the potential to really explode, but don’t just focus on the snowfall. The wind and the cold — and the cold after — will be big.”

"Sounds like it's going to be really bad out. Stock up and have these supplies in case the power fails. Don't drive on ice. These shelters are open. Here's where they are. Take care of the critters." You know, helpful stuff.

snow yesterday afternoon during the rush hour. Local TV News had "TEAM COVERAGE" on the "STORM."

Field reporters were out in the weather vans, shooting pictures of a light dusting snow on the roads. What will they do later in the month when there is an actual blizzard that dumps a foot of snow?

It's cosmically ridiculous.

I have a sister in Queens.

I grew up on the Island. the worst storm I experienced was the blizzard of '77.

I got out in '89.

The worst temp we ever had back then, with wind chill, was -12.

Other places in the U.S. get much worse and much colder, but the tri-state area is not quite prepared for that level of cold.

what have we done?

I was on a national singing tour and we had to be snowmobiled out of the place I was staying. Just outside of Buffalo the cops made us get off the freeway and we had to sleep on the floor of a hotel for 2 nights.

It turned out fun tho, we kept on singing for people and they kept on feeding us and buying us drinks.

dusted with snow, and that they're expecting several inches plus cold. I know my relatives there and in the Savannah area have SOME warmish clothes but not many. They always borrow parkas and mittens when they visit Wisconsin.

My son's MIL just left here on the 26th and was so glad to get out of the cold! The high here was -2 the day she left! She's the one who sent the pic.

that's concerning most people. With the kind of wind they're forecasting, electric will be going out and the heat along with it. The elderly are at particular risk for that.
