Something I learned, literally, at my mother's knee: "It takes years to earn a reputation

for trustworthiness, but just one lie or betrayal to lose it." (Mom was a good Democrat and a wise and kind lady.)

I wonder if any of us will live long enough to see our nation's reputation restored. At 68, I'm pretty sure I won't.

It still required work to reestablish good relations, but much happened just with the election of a good man.
