We ain't goin' anywhere today. Thank god we have power and heat. I got extra flashlight batteries "just in case" and put the flashlight on our bedside table. Trying to get to the bathroom in the middle of the night without light is tough. We're letting the bathroom sink drip slightly...

Thu Jan 4, 2018, 01:10 PM
Jan 2018

We have a fully finished basement. But the garage is in the basement too. (Live on a corner and pull in off the side street on a curved driveway).

Anyway, the first room is a little bathroom, but the water line to the sink and to the washer in the next room are boxed in behind the sink. So no heat from the room goes in there, and the outer wall is exposed to the elements, even though it's a basement. Almost froze that cold water pipe on Tuesday. When it thawed, no leaks. So, dodged a bullet.

On Saturday, supposed to warm up all through the day and around 32 on Sunday. Hopefully, this warmer air will move it's way west toward you in a few days.

So, i've got that dribbling constantly too. And the little space heater is blowing into the vanity with the door open. And i told my wife that while i'm at work, she's got to wash something every morning just to keep water flowing through that pipe.

Stay warm!

No houses built after the beginning of the war, of course. We had to up the electric service, tho. Back in the day when it was built, we didn't have all the electric gadgets we have now.

One great thing about our house is that we have a gas line so we can have a gas oven which I greatly prefer over electric. I can adjust the burners so much more easily...I hate electric stoves...

Thu Jan 4, 2018, 01:29 PM
Jan 2018

3 years AFTER WWII.

All the upgrades, aside from a breaker panel instead of fuses had been done before we moved in. We did, however, have to redo all the water system from galvanized to copper.

We're gas too. Weird thing, though. The people who built the house in '48 actually had a convection COAL heating system. What is now the storage at the front of the garage was a coal bin. Don't know why anybody thought, in 1948 that coal was the way to go.

Somebody, before we bought it, put in circulating hot water, and we put a new "boiler" (no real boiling, just hot water) in about 4 years ago. That thing lasted 50 years, and we put this new one in in our late 50's. Won't be worried about replacing another one, i would guess.

it's very attractive and of course will be a big selling point when we finally sell the house in order to go into assisted living. Having a new-ish roof is enormously important to new home buyers. Our house is pretty good looking. We had to redo our bathrooms and hubby planted a lovely maple in front of the house which in the fall is spectacular. We also put in central air and updated our kitchen. Good thing we did all this while we were both still working...

One the year after moved in (1988 new roof) and another one in 2016. Never had leaks, so we stayed ahead of the potential for damage.

Just like the heater, we'll be dead before the house needs a new roof again.

And I have the texts to prove it.

People thought I was nuts and just taking the loss too hard. My reply was always the same. Y'all will see in time, the russians did this and many in both houses of congress are also involved.

And now we are finding out what most of us on DU knew on 11/9/16. It was stolen! Of course by the time DU was back online from the election night russian hack, the press done moved on to Hillary was a flawed candidate and how we need to woo the racist white non educated males to win elections. Nah, we know better. Hillary WON! Not flawed! And we don't need to woo any racists. We need to keep the russians out of our elections is what we need to do.

Most here would have been posting almost the exact same thing I was screaming. THE RUSSIANS RIGGED THE ELECTION and THE REPUBLICANS HELPED THEM!!!

Like you sleeping was difficult. Eating for me was also difficult. Anger is what best describes what I have felt since 11/08/16.

Anger at the russians! Anger at orange man and his goons! Anger at the rethugs! Anger at the media! But mostly ANGER at my fellow Americans who voted for that fucker!

The Woman's March inspired me. I joined the gym. Need to be able to march in marches. And one has to yell when marching. You need strength for that. I have been in training since Feb. (Cue the Rocky music). I'm ready!

but I lost at least 20 lbs by Thanksgiving. I have been pissed as hell since, especially when I talk about getting rid of the nonsense that the COMPLICIT GOP have pushed through the Senate & congress only to be told that "there's nothing in the Constitution that allows that" WTF?? Think that the Founding Fathers wanted us to lay down and allow a foreign adversary keep what they wanted because the Orange Slob is a failed businessman? I've said from the beginning that this wasn't just about installing the Tangerine Smear because on order for this to work as the Russian Rhesus, the GOP's needed a SUPERMAJORITY, so they HAD to make sure that the Senate AND Congress were controlled by the Red Idiots. Before everything is said and done. This will spread across the Nation, throughout many state houses & there'll be a few Democrats caught up in the net too.
This needed to have not just the Federal government but state governments stolen. You'll NEVER get me to believe that the BILLIONAIRE morons didn't work in concert with Pootie. Adelson, Mercer, Koch need to be JAILED with ALL THEIR MONEY, EVERY SINGLE THING THEY HAVE SEIZED to pay for the restoration of the damage done. THAT INCLUDES EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO COMMITTED This HORRIFIC treachery!

I agree with everything you said. I came to these conclusions during the dark lonely cold weeks alone when DU was off line. During that time I also thought maybe I am just in denial sometimes.

But then DU came back online and much to my relief I found out my conclusions were shared by 99% of the DU community. And they too came to the same conclusion, alone. It was at that moment that I knew I was NOT crazy and reaching for conspiracy theories. For all of us to independently to come to the same conclusion says a lot! And that's an understatement.

I went from 122lb on 11/8/16 to 98lbs by 01/06/17. When I joined the gym, I was 105lb by their scale. I am 110lb now. Got 10lbs to get back. But I have gained muscle not fat. At 51 I can finally do pull ups! I'm ready to march! I can hold signs, yell "FUCK ORANGE MAN" while walking at a protest pace for about 7 miles. Last year I got 2 blocks before coughing and worn out. Not this time! I am ready!

BTW - Glad you are back to posting!

Always considered the election fraudulent and the Trumpster an ugly, incompetent imposter. I have never placed the title of President in front of the Trumpster's name. Nor will I, ever. He was installed into the WH by a series of criminal acts and compliant accomplices. He and the GOP were flooded with dark money, all of which they loved getting. They just didn't want to get caught, so they devised a firewall, group of loyal lackeys to defend, posture and lie for the great Liar-in-Chief. We're watching that firewall disintegrate, the first block crumbling with Flynn's arrogant stupidity and Sessons' recusal. Throw in Comey's firing and the rest is history.

Everyone involved in the 2016 election fraud and the coverup should go to jail. They sold their souls and attempted to sell ours in the bargain. That's treason and no argument that the Mooch can make today will obliterate the fact.

Btw, the Mooch's suggestion to get to the bottom of 2016 irregularities is providing amnesty to all involved and starting over. From Square 1. That's how we'll arrive at the TRUTH.

He said that with a straight face during a Stephanie Ruhle interview.

No, the way we get to the truth of straight-out election theft is hounding, interrogating and prosecuting the guilty parties. Then we measure everyone involved for custom jumpsuits.

Because Orange is a very good color.
