I'm seeing a LOT of tweets saying Trump doesn't know the words to the national anthem

Last edited Mon Jan 8, 2018, 10:10 PM - Edit history (1)

I'm not watching the game, just started seeing all these comments on Twitter, reactions to Trump apparently NOT knowing the anthem.

Editing to add a tweet with video of the complete anthem from NBC News. It's very obvious that Trump doesn't know all the words:

A few years ago at a local high school basketball game, the young man who was singing the anthem forgot the words right in the middle. Instead of remaining silent and lettlng the singer struggle, the entire crowd, most of whom had been just listening until then, joined in with the words and sang along with him until he finished.

I actually quite like our anthem (La Marseillaise is my favorite), and if our kids were still learning music in school with just a bit of voice training and practice (our anthem was meant to be belted out in bars by regular citizens etc after all — not performed by coloratura sopranos) it wouldn’t be challenging to most of our citizens. It’s tragic that music is no longer considered important (thanks repub cuts) even though it’s well known that musical training is fantastic for young minds. Of course Trump never learned the words.

Idk if it is a condition he has been able to mask for years and is being exacerbated by the pressure of POTUS or if he is truly in a mental decline... but he isn't right. I have been to countless professional sports games where the anthem is played and everyone follows the lyrics that are presented on video screens. If that is a crime I plead guilty!

former9thward has to answer by saying:

1)others don't know the same thing
2)Democrats don't know the same thing
3)it's not a bad thing if the Republicans or Trump did the same thing

To make sure the Republicans or Trump doesn't look as bad as folks are saying.

Rinse, lather repeat.

Now if someone says something bad about Democrats, then he has to take a different approach.

To make sure the Democrats don't look good as folks are saying.

Once you recognize the pattern it's fun to spot, it's like bird watching or cloud identification.

Tue Jan 9, 2018, 02:38 AM
Jan 2018

I have always used, "our" instead of "the" in front of twilight.

I only know the first verse. I've never been in sports. I don't watch sports. I have only been two 2 professional sports events in my entire life, one was in 1978 and another was in the 1990s.

I hear it at occasional Democratic events, but don't pay attention to the words. I watched Beyonce lip sync it an Obama's second inauguration. I believe that is the last time that I actually "watched" it sung.

I learned it in school over 50 years ago.

If I know these lyrics this well, I'm sure that more than 1/100 on this site know the lyrics better than me.

O say can you see
By the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed
At our twilight's last gleaning
Whose broad stripes and bright stars
Through the perilous strife
O'r the ramparts we watched
Were so gallantly streaming
And the rockets red glare
The bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night
That are flag was still there
O say does that star spangle banner yet wave
O'r the land of the free
And the home of the brave

You confuse mocking and attacking, they are in fact, two wholly separate constructs, regardless of any pleas you make.

Remember when an apparently stewed E swayed back and forth and swung his arms (and Laura's and Michelle's) during "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" at a funeral? That's what this reminds me of.
