I mean, why not just take the quicker route of riding celebrity to idiocracy?

Rutgers University pays Snooki more than commencement address speaker
Those and other words of wisdom delivered by Jersey Shore star Nicole Snooki Polizzi to Rutgers University students Thursday cost the state university $32,000 in speaking fees, The Star-Ledger reported.
The fee is $2,000 more than the payment Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison will receive when she delivers Rutgers commencement address. It was funded by the mandatory student activity fees paid by Rutgers undergraduates, according to the newspaper. Most of the events financed by the fees are free for students.

And when asked to name her biggest inspiration, the diminutive reality star cited her skin tone.
Id honestly say being tan, she said. When youre tan, you feel better about yourself.

(17,643 posts)..add that to the Apprentice, The Oprah Shore, Survivor, Dancing with the Stars, and that singing show. Anyone else but me repelled by these reality shows? Maybe its insulated me from star worship.

(2,074 posts)I'm not a fan of the idea of Oprah as president (I prefer actual politicians and not celebrities), but she is a very accomplished person of some intelligence (despite some questionable decisions like promoting Dr. Phil), who has truly pulled herself up by her proverbial bootstraps. It is insulting to compare this woman to someone like Snooki, which is what your post is implicitly doing.

(4,407 posts)I'm comparing Oprah's qualifications for President to that of Snookie...There's a big difference.

(2,074 posts)You must be rather ignorant of Oprah's accomplishments if you think she is in any way on the same level as Snooki, when it comes to being a candidate for president. I realize you're joking, but the reality is that your joke suggests that Oprah is as unqualified as Snooki for president, and that is simply not true. I don't think running a celebrity is a good idea at all, but if we are to run one, we could certainly do worse than Oprah. And she is at least famous for good reason, as an accomplished television host, actress, business woman, and philanthropist, unlike Snooki, who is only famous for a reality TV show.
And I say this as someone who is not a fan of the idea of Oprah as president. But comparing her to Snooki is to ignore her many, many accomplishments and proven abilities.

(14,249 posts)Celebrity names have been regularly floated since Trump, but Oprah for some reason is the only one too provoke these kinds of insulting responses.
Her celebrity notwithstanding, Oprah is a highly accomplished woman of great intelligence, commitment and depth and doesn't deserve this kind of treatment. Not that she probably cares, but, as a black woman, I take deep offense at it.

(1,595 posts)I wouldn't say Oprah is completely inexperienced. She's only passed one fewer bill and named three fewer post offices than B. Sanders.

(89,276 posts)when Sanders was asked about how he would break up the banks he had no answer for it . and that was supposed to be his main issue.
yeah, oprah gave a great speech and people say that is not enough. i agree that is not enough to be a good president. but same goes for many others.
look at dennis kucnich who is going to run for governor . i don't see him any more qualified than oprah. and same goes for ralph nader, jill stein and the rest of the idiots who run on the green party ticket .
and of course there is the issue of releasing Tax Returns which should be demanded of candidates .
with talk of oprah people are suddenly demanding more, well i agree, lets demand it of ALL who want to run.
