I think it is more that they are afraid to defend his ridiculous bs, but are afraid to attack him also. They are just keeping their collective head down for lack of any safer political course of action. Mid terms are coming up quickly, and anything you say or do can and will be used against you in a court of public opinion.

Some republicans are condemning it this morning. Interesting that both Republican senators from Utah slammed him. Utah is a very very white state, but I can’t imagine the distress of Mormons when they hear Trump speak. They in general are a dignified reserved people. If they and others like them turn on Trump he is down to the swastika tattoo crowd and no one else.
