(26,044 posts)...he's nowhere near as unpopular as a few months ago. According to 538's composite, his current rating is around 40%-54% -- still awful, but nowhere near the almost 2-1 against he was at not long ago. And that's after the tax bill, eviscerating of the ACA, net neutrality repeal, the "shithole countries" firestorm, etc. When a president's popularity rating gets above 40%, the chances for a bloodbath in the midterms decrease significantly.

(51,590 posts)Actually I wasn't fooled the first time. I said he would win as soon as he was on that gold escalator and no one believed me. But as the GOP candidates dropped off one by one, Brexit went through, and MSM (CNN, MSNBC, The NYT, etc.)gave him all the free airtime he wanted and didn't discuss issues in favor of ratings, it became pretty obvious it was not so easy to say we would win without a problem. Comey was the one final factor that sunk it!
There is still the same GOP, Russian spies and $$$ and election BS going on unfettered. Gerrymandering, social media, Fux Ruse, complicit GOP reps., tons of money flowing in all directions, no changes in voting/hacking, tech. trickery, etc. is happening still! In fact, they have been getting better at lying and distracting the public. THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE AN EASY WIN!
